Many Ultima Online players, including myself, were emotionally devastated watching the news concerning the Tsunami in Asia in December of 2004, where over 100,000 people were presumed dead on New Years Eve. I have personally seen several disasters in my lifetime, but not one by nature on such a large scale.

I realized my virtual wealth could be sold on eBay, and then donate that money to a Charity. I started to solicit virtual donations from friends and strangers that trusted me enough to hand over their wealth so it could be done in large batches, and soon found myself overwhelmed by the amount of players coming to me with donations! 

Due to legal concerns, GamersCharity was founded one week later on January 7th, with it's own homepage, checking account, paypal account, and of course - eBay account.

I even promised the community I would shave my head if I received over 1 Billion Ultima Online gold, and we reached it Feb. 13, 2005!
