We are located on the island of Maui in the Hawaiian Islands. Doing business from a 1,100 foot elevation on the side of Haleakala ( House of the sun) the the world's largest dormant volcano. Haleakala is a volcano in its postshield stage of activity. In this stage, Haleakala infrequently erupts alkalic controlled lavas about once every one hundred years or so (although no eruption has occured since about 1790). Off the coast of Maui, 'Jaws' is showing its fangs. And instead of running away, surfers are running into the water. A dozen times a year Pacific storms and the underwater topography of Maui's north shore combine to create monster waves called Jaws. Around 70 feet tall, taller than a five story building. Only a handful of surfers even try to ride the Hawaiian behemoths. |
