Originally making and repairing footwear for adults, the business has grown and developed into the most well respected and admired childrens footwear specialist in London .

The shop still carries echoes from the past with an elaborate wooden desk that covers the till area and a rich, emerald coloured carpet embroidered with the 'G' for Gillingham, in Gold lettering. The shop front also still has the original wooden display floor boards and inlaid, inscripted type in the glass partitions.

Childrens feet are measured with care using standard fitting gauges. There are no gizmos in this shop ! The Staff are trained by Proffessionals at Start Rite Shoes and learn to understand how and why a shoe should fit  and the manner in which one should apply the ground rules. There is really no such thing as a 'perfect fit' which is why time and care should be taken to make sure that each pair of feet have footwear that will not cause any harm.
