If you ask my mom, she'd say I've been crafty since the day I was born. But it all actually started when I was 4 years old. A good friend of my grandmother, taught me how to crochet my first chain. It wasn't too long after, that I received my first sewing machine and I spent many hours making blankets for all of my dolls. Then came the knitting needles and I was off and going knitting all kinds of things. From slippers to ski sweaters. One day I was just checking things out on the computer and found a heart shaped basket that was really pretty. I showed the picture to my mom and asked her how she thought it was made. Oh, that is crocheted, she said. That was about seven years ago and I have been crocheting with strips of fabric ever since. Mom mentioned the rugs they use to crochet when she was young, out of old sheets, old shirts, and any other fabrics they could get their hands on. This was the main way rugs were made many years ago. I make my rugs in the same manner, but I now have the option of using pretty cottons, flannels, and polycottons to crochet my rugs. I just love working with pretty fabrics. I'm always anxious to finish one rug and start another. It's amazing how the combination of different fabrics can turn into a beautiful rug. Hardly an evening goes by, that I don't sit in my chair and work on a rug. Another love of mine is making my quality & gentle homemade soaps. I have a hard time passing up beautiful fabrics and wonderful soap fragrances. I use a soap recipe that I have kept changing over the years to get it to where it is now. And I am very happy with how my soap turns out. If it doesn't pass my inspection, it becomes what I call family soap. It took me awhile to dive in and start selling my rugs and fabric on ebay, but I'm very glad that I finally took the step to get started. It has been a very rewarding experience. I have met a lot of really nice people. And last but not least, in my spare time when I'm not crocheting, soap making, or adding a new ebay auction, I drive a school bus and am the custodian of a rural two room school.
What a wonderful life!
