History of Baseball Card Collecting - Part 2
I began collecting baseball cards while flipping (yes, actually flipping, bending, and putting them in my bicycle spokes to make motorcycle noises) cards with boyhood friends. That was waaay back in the early 1960's and the only way you could get older cards was a friend's older brother or cousin, or by flipping or trading with friends. This was my first exposure to older (1950's) cards --- and I was HOOKED!!! I began thumbing through comic books and newspaper ads trying to find people who actually sold these treasures. I came up with about TWO or THREE!! So, I managed to buy all of the Topps issues I could get ahold of and kept building my collection to what it is today....one great big MESS! Any how, that's how I got started and the obsession never ends. Although, I have taken a disliking to all of the insert sets and "scarce" limited printing of the newer sets and have limited myself to buying only a set of Topps for each year, just because there is TOO MUCH out there! I am still trying to complete a few Topps and Bowman sets from the 50's and need 1948 Bowmans, 1951 Topps Bluebacks, 1953 Bowman B&W, 1955 Topps Doubleheaders, 1960 Leafs, 1961 Fleers, and many insert cards from the 1960's that Topps put into packs. Please ask for my wantlist and send me yours .... I am still open to FAIR TRADING! (for those who are uninitiated to TRADING, that means I give you cards that you need for cards that you give to me that I need! it's that simple! - all we need to do is establish a realistic value for the cards we are exchanging - it's definately worth a try!!
