About Misty

My name is Misty Benson. I currently live in the sometimes infamous Boulder, CO. When trying to think of words to describe myself, the best phrase I can come up with is "FAERY FREAK"! I love all things fae, fantasy, and magical. When I am not at work or painting fantasy images, I work on installation projects.

My interests include some of the tried and trues of the fantasy world including movies such as "Labyrinth", "Legend", "The Dark Crystal", and "The Last Unicorn". On the other hand, I love "The Shawshank Redemption" and "Harold and Maude". My musical interests are vast, but I tend to listen to a lot of music that came out of Seattle in the late '80s/90s: Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Mother Love Bone, Soundgarden. I also have a fondness for classic artists such as Ozzy Osbourne, Alice Cooper, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and on and on! And seriously, Jimmy Buffet's "Margaritaville" is one of my favorite songs! My favorite artist is Frida Kahlo. Her dark introspection fuels a great deal of my installation work. Fantasy artists that I admire include Wendy Pini, Brian and Wendy Froud, and the art of the 60's big eye artists.
