Welcome to Grammy Mouse Art and my little studio hidden away in the Great North Woods of Maine. I am a folk artist and I sell my paintings here on Ebay. I also collect folk art as it is my passion! I collect the work of Charles Wysocki, Warren Kimble, Linda Nelson Stocks, Sally Caldwell Fischer and other contemporary folk artists and numerous items such as baskets, carvings, pottery, and more.
Although not a trained artist and primarily self-taught, I've painted all my life, in fact I can't remember when it started, I was so young. My mother was a hobbyist artist so the materials, opportunity, and encouragement were always there. My painting ability, I have been told by family, is hereditary. My father, Leslie Deaquilla Binks, emigrated to this country from England in the 1930's as an animal trainer, and his uncle, Reuben Ward Binks, was world renowned for his paintings of hunting dogs.

I grew up on my grandparents' old farm in rural New Hampshire in the 1940's and 50's in a gorgeous old colonial home that was built in 1764. I can remember my grandmother and my aunt Mary, who lived on the farm just down the road, cooking on old wood cookstoves. I still do the same to this day. I love the idea that my granddaughter Ashleigh will be one of the very few of her generation who can say that she remembers her Grammy cooking on a woodstove too. My Nana Smith drove a horse and buggy 5 miles to the village store. She never learned to drive a car even though Granddad tried to teach her. The first lesson she ground the gears while shifting, he laughed at her, and proud and stubborn lady that she was, she refused to try again. I was glad because I loved it when she hooked up "Old Red" in his harness and I could ride with her in the buggy to the to do the shopping in town. My art reflects these childhood memories and are often visualizations of the family stories I heard while sitting at her knee.

My nickname given to me by my family is "Mouse" which comes from a childhood obsession with catching deer mice in the fields of the farm and keeping them as pets, and then later as an adult rescuing injured deer mice from the cats and healing them. My sweet granddaughter Ashleigh after hearing her Grampy call me Mouse calls me "Grammy Mouse" so that is the name I sign to my paintings.
I was a prolific painter as a child but then other things took over like marriage, career, children but then came the good fortune to retire in the early 1990's and move to Maine. In the early 1990's my husband Bill and I tired of the urban scrawl that was creeping into New Hampshire and retired here to the remote Great Northwoods of Maine to recapture the simpler times of our childhood. In the tiny town of Sherman Mills, Maine. We live on a 60 acre homestead overlooking majestic Mount Katahdin. The daily opportunity to paint my childhood memories, and the history and beauty around me in my new "home" has allowed me to create wonderful, charming Americana styled paintings that I hope brings smiles to the faces of the viewers.
My paintings hang in private collections all over the world, and sell in galleries along the coast of Maine, including Bar Harbor and Kennebunkport. I love this new adventure of selling on my paintings on Ebay, and hope you will add me to your favorites list. Come back and visit often and hope you find something that you love.
