My Son
|
I chose blue as the primary color for the first paragraph of my "About Me" ebay page, because blue is my son's favorite color. Among many, many other things, my little boy has autism. Autism affects 1 in 150 children, and boys are four times more likely to be affected than girls.
My son's mother and I, our immediate and extended families, and a host of therapists, teachers, professionals, and friends have worked tirelessly, since November 12, 2002, when he was not even 21 months old, and his autism became evident. He had lost the ability to speak, make eye contact, show emotion, wave, or play appropriately. Five years, three months, and 21 days later (as of March 5, 2008), he has regained language, makes better eye contact, shows emotion, waves, and plays much more appropriately. He attends a private school, in first grade, with a trained aide, and receives 15 hours of one-to-one ABA therapy each week. He cannot eat wheat or dairy products, and must avoid yeast and refined sugars. He takes lots of prescription medicine and supplements each day, and his future--though still not completely mapped out--is far brighter today than when he was 21 months old.
I use ebay because of the great bargains and the great sellers and bidders I meet. After spending nearly $200K on private therapy and more than $175K on legal fees, it is important to be able to purchase items at a much reduced rate. I'd like to open a business account, sell items for a 501(c)(3) autism advocacy group I operate, and raise money to help other children. I would be grateful hearing from anyone with ideas, information, or guidance about ebay selling and buying using a non-profit business. Again, many, many thanks to the ebay community and my friends who are members thereof.
