Started in 2005, the Hoagland Brothers Guitar Company is located in Pickerington, Ohio, a small 'burb outside of Columbus, we strive to serve all of our buyers/clients guitar needs!
Like a lot of guys our age, we played in bands in high school and junior high and had a great time doing it. Then Life happened. Jobs, moves, marriage, kids. You know... Life.
Owning and playing a guitar became secondary to everything else. Then one day, after hearing Jack talk about how he used to play guitar in a band, his 10 year old daughter decided that it was cool and she wanted to do that too. We got her a guitar and, after a long, arduous 2 weeks of lessons (ok... it was long and arudous for Jack & his wife), she announced that the flute was going to be her next musical weapon-of-choice. So... now he had this guitar in his home that lacked a player. That was begging for a player. "Hey... I used to play! I remember now." So, Jack plucked around on it a bit and, after talking with Jim, his best friend who still plays in bands to this day, he got excited about playing again.
Not being able to afford $1,300 for a Les Paul or a $1,000 for a Strat (of course not... there was the kid's college coming up in a few years), Jack began investigating how tough it might be to build one. Let's see... buy a body, learn how to apply a finish to it, buy a neck, tuners, new nut (bone, of course!), cheap pickups (whoops! upgrade to those good ones he should have bought in the first place), pickguards, copper foil shielding, learn how to build wiring harnesses, buy hardware, a bridge (maybe one of those really nice Fishman electric/acoustic ones!), learn how to "intonate", adjust a truss rod, etc., etc.
As it turned out, not only was it not that tough, it was a LOT of fun! And we both learned a lot about the guitars that we had no clue about in our previous guitar-playing lives. These days, I have 6 guitars (4 that I have built), a Vox AC30HW, a Marshall, a rack system for my guitar, some PA equipment, and a gaggle of mysterious little boxes that scream and produce un-holy bizzare sounds and I can't even tell you how many Jack owns. We both have "GAS", it seems (Guitar Acquisition Syndrome).
We have Jack's (now 14 year old) daughter to thank for our newly-rekindled interest in the guitar! She was the fire that re-started our interest in guitars and music! (Kids are GREAT, aren't they?) You just never know where your next inspiration is going to come from, do you?
After building several guitars (and enjoying every minute of the learning process), we decided to branch out by carrying other guitar-related items.
If there is an item that you need and we don't carry it, please drop us an email and we'll see what we can do! THANKS!! Heywood & Jack... the Hoagland Brothers
