Considering buying a timeshare on Ebay?  We've created this comprehensive timeshare buying guide just for you!  Here's just a sample of what you will learn:

"Helping You Find Your Own Paradise"

How to Relieve the Timeshare Buying Headache

Buying a timeshare doesn't have to be an expensive, headache-inducing process. There's a few simple steps to follow to find the perfect timeshare for your needs, the right price to pay, where and how to buy your timeshare, who to trust with your money, and how to use your timeshare to enjoy paradise year after year.

Come along and we'll explore the process and learn how to save a pretty penny (and avoid a ton of headaches) when buying a timeshare.

Note:  We're assuming you already know why timeshares are so popular. Smart travelers like you know timeshares mean spectacular resort accommodations, elbow room for the whole family, and amenities you'd find in high-end luxury condos.  Most units come with full kitchens where you can eat breakfast in your robe and enjoy a cup of fresh-brewed coffee.  Many resorts offer a deck overlooking the 18th green where you can enjoy an evening conversation with that special someone as the sun fades in the West.  And when you travel to your own vacation home, you get to do the activities you love -- enough fun stuff to do to keep even the most picky of your travel companions happy.

And of course you can exchange your timeshare and travel the world (that's what 80% of timeshare owners do).  If you're new to timeshare check out our links for new buyers section just below.

9 questions to ask yourself and your spouse
to determine the perfect timeshare resort,
week, unit size and season.

here's so many timeshares, how am I supposed to choose just one?

Over the years we've tweaked and tweezed the timeshare-buying process into these most important questions to ask before buying a timeshare.   Save yourself headaches, time and money - - answer these first:

  • How many will be traveling in your party most years?
  • What activities are most important to you and your traveling companions?
  • Do you want to visit the same resort every year, or will you be exchanging your timeshare?
  • What's your budget?
  • How flexible are your travel dates -- are there just a few periods you can travel each year?
  • Is there a specific destination that you would travel to every year?
  • What sorts of amenities (pool, spa, beach, slopes, lake, river, surf) are most important?
  • How will upcoming life events impact your travel habits (retirement, empty nest, grandkids, weddings, family reunions)?
  • What is your most memorable vacation?  Why?

Now let's try to trim the 3500 timeshare spots into a set of just a few resorts, seasons, and weeks by building your Timeshare Target Profile.

Target Profile

Here's your cheat sheet for winning the timeshare buying game.  It's no secret, timeshare shoppers who answer these questions -- and keep them handy during their search -- consistently find the best timeshares at the best prices.

  • What are your top 3 destinations?
  • Do the destinations have the activities you want?
  • What specific week numbers/seasons will work for you?
  • What size unit do you need now and into the future?
  • What are the top 3 resorts in your destination?
  • Do these resorts have the amenities you want?
  • Are the resorts within your budget?
  • How much are the annual maintenance fees -- and are they in your budget?
  • Can you accomplish everything you want above with a good Trading Week?  (Trick question. The answer for 80% or more of our clients is es. A good trading week can save you thousands over a similar high-demand resort)

How to determine the right price to pay for your
Ebay timeshare

Now that you have a better idea of your perfect timeshare -- the next obvious question is:  "How do I know how much to bid or pay for my target week?"  The answer in a nutshell: Find comparable properties that have sold on Ebay, check out other online inventory sources, talk to an expert.

Timeshare Comps
If you've ever bought or sold your own home, you've probably heard a real estate agent use the term omps.Short for omparable sales, comps help Realtors/sup> come up with a listing price for your home.  One problem with timeshares: unlike residential real estate, there is no multiple listing service for timeshares -- no place for you to quickly and easily determine "comps."  What to do?  Fire up your browser and head to Ebay!

Over the last fewyears, Ebay has evolved into the largest single market for timeshares.  With a quick search you can determine the timeshare comps for properties like your target timeshare week.

Here's how:

    1) Search for existing auction listings.  Note the high and low prices for your target timeshare.

    2) Search expired Ebay listings.  How?  Go to the advanced search page on Ebay, find and tick the little box that says earch expired listings only (you'll have to be a registered Ebay user to perform this search).  Of the returned properties, check out those with winning bids. Note the high and low prices.

Where should you look for the least expensive timeshare prices? Holiday Timeshare Auctions on Ebay -- of course!

The easy way to avoid scams, ripoffs and the characters who
want to separate you from your wallet
    .

It's a simple fact of the times in which we live.  There are computer savvy thieves, scammers, and rip-off artists who want to separate you from your money.

Here's a few steps to avoid these characters.

    1. Buy from a reputable company whose only business is timeshares.  Yes, you can find some great bargains when you buy from an individual, but you are opening yourself to risk.

    • What happens if the timeshare is not where, when, or how they describe? (Can you get your money back?)
    • How do you know all fees are paid?
    • Who will do the transfer?
    • Who will walk you through the (surprisingly elaborate) timeshare buying process?

Most of the nefarious characters we see online seem to be people selling one or two eals of the centurywho appear one minute and are gone (with your money) the next.

    2. Always check references: True in any large transaction, but especially true with timeshares on Ebay.  One way to check references: check the feedback of your timeshare reseller.  A quick look at their feedback and you'll get a feel for the way they treat their customers.

Important Note: you must go one step further.  If they have a good feedback rating (you won't even consider buying from a feedback below 80%, right?),  click to visit each of items resulting in feedbacks -- at least the last 10 to be safe.

Another Important note: Are those positive feedbacks timeshare related?  If they're small transactions with  nothing to do with timeshares, beware!

One trick of the scamsters is to buy and sell a bunch of very cheap items, bump up their feedback, then go for the high-priced scam.  Bidders may be lulled into a false sense of security by positive feedback.  Don't fall for it.  Always check feedback references -- and be certain the transactions are (at a minimum) in the same dollar range as your resort purchase.

"You are very professional in every respect. And the value a person receives from buying a timeshare week through Holiday Group is incredible!"

    Dave Akland
    Anacortes, WA

    3. Talk to a Human
Nothing beats having a real phone conversation.  We're consistently surprised by how few bidders pick up the telephone and call their auctioneer. If you're about to spend $1000 or more.  It seems prudent to at least talk to the person who's selling the product, right?  If you can't get them on the phone, how will you expect to get delivery?

    4. Due Diligence:  There are a few more important things to knowbefore buying a timeshare. Find out if the property, week, unit, and resort are as described.  Make certain the dues are paid, the property is free and clear and your reseller can certify (and guarantee) your purchase.  If your reseller can't or won't guarantee your purchase, find another reseller.

11 tips for buying a timeshare week

      1. Buy from a reputable company.
      2. Think long-term & buy the biggest unit you can find.
      3. Buy the best resort you can find.
      4. Know the maximum amount you're willing to spend.
      5. Due diligence is essential  and Ebay feedback is just one component.
      6. Always contact the seller before bidding either by email or phone -- always ask questions before bidding.
      7. When buying from a company, ask and check references from BBB or equivalent.
      8. Bidding on auctions from international sellers (and individuals with little timeshare experience) is risky.
      9. Look for a week with great trading power if you will ever exchange your timeshare
      10. Pay with a credit card or Paypal.
      11. Closing: Be patient. Timeshares do take a while to transfer,  but don't get complacent and do follow-up with your reseller.

How to set a realistic budget for your timeshare purchase

When you buy a timeshare there are three factors that will impact your budget:

    • Purchase auction price
    • Annual maintenance fee
    • Transfer & settlement fee

    Purchase Price
Your purchase price includes the title or membership rights to your timeshare.  As a member you'll be eligible for all the other benefits of ownership - reservations, member access to the resort and amenities, the swimming pool, tennis courts and in some cases the private beach club and spa.

    Testimonial

"I was so lucky to find the Holiday Group, it has saved me a lot of money. "

    Donna Taylor
    Chicago, IL

    Annual Maintenance
Fees range from $250-$1000 per year depending on the timeshare membership. Maintenance fees for a two-bedroom unit will typically be higher than for a studio - but the prices are set by the resort (or homeowner's association).  As an owner, you will be responsible for this fee every year to cover the cost of maintaining the resort and grounds.  It pays to compare timeshare maintenance fees before buying.

    Transfer and settlement fees
When transferring memberships, you will likely have one or more additional fees to note. These may include county recordering fees, homeowners associations dues, state tax assessments, management and settlement fees.  These fees are always present and help the various companies ensure your (surprisingly complicated) transaction happens in a legal and timely manner.

When you buy from Holiday Group, all fees are disclosed in writing and will be explained in full and up-front -- guaranteed.
