Miller Farm is a wonderful, relaxing place to live and to visit. Located in the foothills of Western Maine, we raise horses and sheep, plus the usual assortment of dogs and cats.
For those of you who have visited before, here are some changes to the original page information. Rita passed away 3 Decembers ago at the ripe old age of 31. For a Belgian mare, that's pretty good! She was happy until the end. She was losing the ability to get up once she laid down, so we had to make that very tough decision. She left behind her daughter Grace, now 18, and her grandson (by Emeer out of Grace) Dobby, now turning 7. Sybil is sweeter than ever, our Thoroughbred mare, who turned 24 in May. Dobby is coming along wonderfully with his training to be a dressage and/or event horse. He stands 17+H tall and is as goofy as they come. A typical big gelding, he is curious and into everything. We are currently showing First Level and training some Second Level movements.
The Farm: We shear our sheep for the wool and raise lambs for the freezer and/or breeding. We raise much of our own food, including veges, fruits for eating, jams and jellies, and also make our own maple syrup, ketchup, pickles and tomato sauce. Sarah Miller knits and designs patterns for hats, tams, mittens, vests and sweaters and sells wool by the skein or kit for her designs. George Miller tends the sheep and the outside kitties (we're down to just Wilbur now). Duncan and Robin Miller tend the horses and take care of the farm maintenance, haying and such. We all are ruled by the inside kitties (currently 3) and our 3 dogs, Duffy (choc. lab), Duke (blue heeler) and Potter (Jack Russell Terrier).
What Are "Oh Wow!" Mittens?
"Oh Wow!" mittens are a dual-layered mitten of wool and merino wool. They are wind-block, warm and beautiful. Mitten kits and patterns are available at the farm and through mail order. Sweater, tam and hat kits and patterns (all original Sarah Miller designs) are also available. Wool yarn is sold at the farm and through mail order, and color cards are available.
