My Favorite Childhood Doll -- Horsman Cindy 1959

Dolls of the mid-50's to mid-60's are my biggest collecting passion.  I love to find a "treasure in the rough", a dirty neglected doll and bring her back to her original beauty and sparkle!  I believe dolls should be enjoyed and loved -- not kept sterile in boxes or hidden behind glass where no one ever gets to touch or love them. I love them as decorative items used throughout a home.   I'm not about the perfection of mint items, reproduction clothing etc is fine with me, but I do want quality items, and that's what I give the "adoptive mommies" who take my dolls into their homes.  The same is true of any of my doll items.  I really believe the Baby Boomer years were the GOLDEN AGE OF DOLLS in many aspects.  The dolls had just expressive faces with so much variety offered.  When I find a doll that is like one from my childhood, there's a smile on my face -- it's like greeting an old friend.  

Recently I have ventured into COMPOSITION DOLLS.  I have two Effanbee Little Ladys, several Patsy types, a big chubby Baby Linda from 1948 with caracul wig, an Effanbee Lovums with Kid body,  and several unmarked dolls.  I really enjoy the special glow that these dolls have!  There is such a sense of history -- if only they could talk!

Thanks to my doll board friends, since 2006, I became enamoured of Baby Face Dolls.  Their wonderful expressions make them fun to pose and photograph. I love vintage items, and enjoy passing on quality and unique items to others who appreciate the finery of the past.  Preserving our heritage through common items is what history really comes down to ... it's the everyday items that we use that say so much about us as a culture and people.

Scrapbooking is another passion -- but then it's just a way of preserving family history.  It brings joy to many people -- those who scrap and those who open the books!   I really enjoy photography so these two interests go well together.
