Even though I've been working in business for more than 10-years as a professional engineer (involved in project management, specification writing, customer service, marketing, financials, etc.), I'm a relative newcomer to the eBay community. My young son has brought me home, away from the office space and into the play/learning space, and I'm where I need to be right now. In order to partly fund my new adventures, I've been working on eBay and exploring my passions of collecting and crafting. My "hugawayfromhome" moniker is the potential name of a home-based business that is sewing and selling pillows and blankets designed for the daycare environment and air travel environment (both of which I've been exposed to for a few years now). But, now, I'm finding some eclectic collector's items to sell. (Sometimes, I think I should change my moniker to "anelectichugawayfromhome" or "hugawayfromaneclectichome".) My collecting interests include: pottery and clay (southwest and Mexican), cat figurines, Fenton Art Glass, Willowtree, Rose decor, Miniatures, folk art, and antique and vintage books. My artistic interests include: drawing, painting, and polymer clay.
My past life as a professional has helped me to form some of my principles that I abide by on eBay.
- Provide accurate product descriptions.
- Impress your clients/customers and don't disappoint them.
- Communicate well: I appreciate questions and feedback.
- Provide a product or service sooner than later.
- Provide a fair price for both buyer and seller.
- Use a dictionary when necessary.
To elaborate, my husband can tell you that I spend a lot of time writing the descriptions for all of my items because I want my buyer to be well-informed. I do not like to disappoint people. Therefore, I ship out my items within two (2) days of a cleared payment. Usually, I ship out my items within one (1) day of a cleared payment.
I package breakable and precious items well to avoid damage, but I also recommend purchasing shipping insurance for those same items. If I require insurance to accept returns, I will state that in my auction statement.
