Moncler Fakes . . .
We love Moncler and have worn the brand since 1999. While Moncler is most popular in Italy and in Japan, the brand has grown in popularity and stature in the US over the last few years.
Increasing recognition in the marketplace has also meant that Moncler fakes have abounded. We are saddened that this has happened to a brand we love and feel compelled to do something about it, which leads us to this “guide.”
Over the next several days, we will compile pictures of tags, zippers, logos, labels of authentic Moncler jackets we have purchased directly from authorized retailers and upload them here to show what the real thing looks like.
Ebay is now flooded with Moncler fakes and we literally go an entire page of fake Moncler before coming across a genuine article.
While we have provided some of the easiest ways to spot Moncler fakes below, we have recently noticed a great number of Moncler fakes listed now on Ebay that claim to sport FIOCCHI ITALY buttons as well as LAMPO zippers. It appears that it is getting even more difficult to spot and buy a genuine Moncler jacket on Ebay unfortunately . . .
Our goal here is to empower other Ebay sellers of authentic Moncler merchandise to come together and create awareness of Moncler fakes.

Spotting Moncler Fakes . . .
Here are some of the easiest ways to spot Moncler fakes.
1. Labels:
The Moncler label is always located at the center top of the inside of the jacket (except for a reversible jacket and the K2 style). We have seen Moncler fakes on Ebay where the Moncler label is located on the lower right or lower left of the inside of the jacket – Moncler’s don’t come that way, with the exception of the K2 style where the label is on the lower right side.
The Moncler size label is always in the same color/material as the Moncler label. We have seen Moncler’s on Ebay with a blue Moncler label and a white size label – Moncler’s don’t come that way!
The Moncler size label is always located right below the Moncler label or for the new Fall/Winter 2007-2008 collection, we have seen the size label located at the shoulder seam. If you see the size label located with the material /care labels, beware!
The Moncler material/care labels are always located on the left side on the inside of the jacket (at the side). If you see them anywhere else, beware!
Not all Moncler jackets have the cartoon logo on the inside of the jacket but if there is one, it’s always located on the lower left hand side on the inside of the jacket. If it’s anywhere else, beware! Always ask for pictures that show the location of these labels – not just closeups that don’t show you where they are on the jacket!
Right on top of the MONCLER label is sometimes a strap that you can use to hang your jacket (it's usually leather or a cotton/polyester/synthetic material). If there is a strap, and if it's one of those made of synthetic material in the blue/red color, MAKE SURE it's navy blue on the left and red on the right. We have just seen fakes on Ebay where the strap is red on the left and navy blue on the right – Moncler’s don’t come that way!
Moncler labels just say MONCLER! If you see a label with the name of the model name written below it, beware!
2. Buttons, Zippers, Pockets:
The vast majority of zippers and buttons (except for hidden zippers), toggles – everything – on these jackets have either the word “MONCLER” engraved or the Moncler logo on them. If you see a silver snap button with no engraving on it, beware!
Only the very early models of MONCLER did not have their logo on the zippers, but this was back in 1999 and 2000 (this was the case on a few year 2000 models that we have), so if you are buying a new model and the hardware doesn’t have the logo – beware!
The buttons on authentic Moncler (this applies to the newer models – roughly the last 3-4 years) say FIOCCHI ITALY.
Moncler never uses nylon zip pulls or those silver circular zippers we have seen on Ebay. The vast majority of new Moncler styles have LAMPO zippers (referring to main zipper on the front of the jacket, excluding zippers on pockets) -- but since there are fake Balenciaga’s (as LAMPO’s are the zippers used on Balenciaga bags) so there are most likely fake LAMPO zippers but check to see if they are even LAMPO's.
We have seen Moncler fakes where the pocket is on the left hand side (when the pocket on the real thing should be on the right or on the arm), and vice versa. The easiest way to check is to go to the Moncler web site, find the style you are interested in and see where the pocket should be. The Moncler web site shows styles from the last few years and it is a complete list so it shows ALL the styles from that collection. The same thing goes for fur, we have seen Moncler fakes where the hood has a fur trim when the real thing does not!
3. Moncler Embroidery:
See where the Moncler embroidery is located and its size, we have seen fakes where the embroidery is not the right size or in the wrong place (easiest way to check is again, go to the Moncler web site, find the style you are interested in and see where the embroidery is and how big it is). For example, we have seen fakes where the embroidery should be on the arm but is found on the chest and vice versa.
The Moncler embroidery has a lot of texture to it. If an embroidery looks “flat” or looks like it’s printed on – beware!
4. Tags:
We have seen fake Monclers with the plastic triangular tag, Moncler pamphlet and Moncler booklet, Moncler bag for extra buttons so just because the jacket comes with all these things doesn’t automatically mean that you are getting the real thing.

Some General Buying Tips . . .
Ask sellers for closeups of labels, zippers and the Moncler embroidery.
Do not buy based on ONE photo of the product.
Sellers with feedback based on lots of one-penny purchases – always a bad sign!
Research before you buy an item – we have had our fair share of bad experiences on Ebay too, it can happen to anyone, please be careful.
Watch out for stolen pictures – pictures that look familiar, taken from other auctions and meshed together.
Authenticity cards and receipts do not guarantee authenticity. Counterfeits are known to come with all of the above.
Beware of a high-end product paired with the “wrong” tag (we saw a YSL bag with a Macy’s price tag – Macy’s does not sell YSL!).
Do not buy things off-Ebay, even if it saves you a few bucks. Not only is it against Ebay rules but you have no protection if something happens.
Do your research on sellers – “fake” sellers have been known to use pictures of genuine products in their listings.

If you are not sure, ask for more pictures. There is nothing like paying $500 for a fake Moncler. Moncler jackets are only sold at the best stores. Their distribution in the U.S. is very exclusive. Ask yourself why any seller would sell a $1,000 Moncler jacket (new or recent model, brand new) for less than $500? Or an $800 Moncler jacket for less than $100? Put another way, why would any seller sell a +$1,000 Prada bag for less than $200? A seller might want to list an item at a lower start price to generate interest and of course there are always great deals to be found on Ebay and a seller might just want to list at a low price for whatever reason. But if it’s too good to be true, it probably is. Do your research and make sure you have a good understanding of the product.
We too have fallen victim to fake products on Ebay (mostly buying brands we know little to nothing about). Because we know quite a bit about Moncler, we feel that it’s our responsibility to share it with other Ebay members. We hope that you find this somewhat useful.

Pictures of Moncler FAKES vs. the REAL Thing
We are very disappointed as we have just purchased our first fake Moncler jacket on Ebay. The jacket we purchased is the same Moncler Badia model/style in black that we have for sale in our Ebay Store right now. The one in our Ebay Store is a size 2 and the one we just bought is a size 0. With two of the same model/style Moncler jacket in hand, we have taken photos of the fake jacket to compare them to the real jacket. The seller also stated in the listing that the buttons are FIOCCHI but when we received the jacket today (April 12, 2007), they do not say that. We are working hard to get a refund on the jacket -- the seller even stated that she will accept refunds within 10 days of receipt but she has yet to offer us a refund!
The first two pictures below are comparisons of the metal zip pull. The first picture (with the word FAKE all over it) is the fake one we just received today and the second photo is the authentic jacket. Notice that on the fake jacket, the font is different, especially at the ends of each letter. The third and fourth photos compare the zippers on the two jackets. The third photo shows the zippers on the fake jacket and the fourth photo shows the zippers on our authentic jakcet. Notice that the real jacket uses LAMPO zippers -- the same zippers used on Balenciaga bags. The zippers on the fake jacket do not say anything on them. The fifth and sixth photos below show the buttons on the fake Moncler jacket we just received today. Notice that the fake buttons say "PASCO 409." The seventh photo is a picture of the buttons on our authentic Moncler jacket that say "FIOCCHI ITALY."

The Disclaimer . . .
We have been buying Moncler since 1999 so our comments reflect only Moncler styles beginning in 1999. If there are Moncler styles that pre-date 1999, we will not be able to comment on them unfortunately. And although we have owned or sold most Moncler styles that have appeared since 1999 (especially the popular ones), we cannot claim that we have seen every single Moncler model that has been manufactured since 1999 given the breadth of their collection. However, all of our comments apply to every Moncler coat we have come across and therefore we are confident that they can be broadly applied to most Moncler jackets. Our comments above are meant to be a rough guide, rather than the absolute.
