~ A Bit about Idaho ~
Idaho has an area of 82,413 square miles. That's the same size as Rhode Island, Vermont, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maryland, West Virginia, Connecticut, and Delaware combined. The lowest elevation is 736 feet above sea level and the highest point is 12,655 feet above sea level. There are over 2000 lakes and 3200 miles of rivers and streams. Fifty-eight percent of Idaho is publicly owned.
Southern Idaho where I live is situated in the beautiful "Magic Valley" surrounded by the South Hills to the south and the majestic Sawtooth Mountains to the north. We are a mere 90 miles from Sun Valley; a world class skiing resort, only 45 miles from the Nevada border where you can enjoy Vegas style gambling and entertainment at Cactus Petes in Jackpot, NV. Idaho offers incredible hunting,camping and fishing opportunities, pristene, untouched wilderness areas, and is a great place to raise a family. We are an agricultural based state and of course are famous for "Idaho Russets" as well as other more 'unique' things. Evel Knevel 'attempted' his jet cycle jump over our own Snake River Canyon (See 2nd to last picture in series - Jump is in the far distance and a close up of the canyon he bellyflopped over!), here in Southern Idaho. The anniversary of that event will be August 29. The Perrine Bridge which spans our Snake River Canyon coming into the city on the north side has become a very famous destination for those involved in the EXTREME sport of 'base jumping'. We see young and old nearly every day with parachute packs on their backs climbing over the bridge at its center and diving, rolling, jumping OFF the bridge in a free fall till they release their parachutes part way down; and float down to dry ground alongside the River. The River makes a wonderful 'safety' net for base jumpers too if they land a bit off target. This has become such a popular sport and our bridge; one of the safer and more exciting locations to jump. If you ever come to Twin Falls, Idaho; be sure to check at the Twin Falls Visitor's Center by the bridge to see if its the time of year to view the base jumpers. Generally this sport takes place here in Spring and Summer but can carry on far into our very mild Fall season. Come on out and see us! We're now one of the premier base jumping structures in the nation and offer base jumping classes at our local colllege.
I've been buying and selling on Ebay since 1998 and I've found Ebay buyers and sellers for the most part (99.9% of the time) to be honest, courteous and helpful. To-date I haven't had one experience that I would call a bad one; that says something very positive about this community. I'm proud to be a part of Ebay and a part of such a wonderful community of people! I sell a variety of things on Ebay at any given time. I have a rather large collection of original movie theater posters (one sheets) and post those from time to time; all sizes and kinds of clothing, purses & shoes: vintage, nearly new and new; vintage lingerie, all manner of books, toys, unique collectibles; lots of LDS related books and collectibles; and on and on ... you name it .. you might find just what you are looking for in one of my auctions!
 
 
~ Ebay Buyer Stories ~
I have been collecting unique stories of Ebay customers and thought I would post a few here for your enjoyment and add more later.
PRECIOUS MEMORIES
I had posted a bid for an older ashtray from a tavern in New York on Ebay. I thought I would probably get $5.00 for the ashtray as it was nothing really 'unique' or so I thought. The bid ended much higher than that; over $50 and I asked the buyer to share his story about it with me. Seems he and his lovely wife used to dance in this particular tavern and it was something he bought 'for the memory' so it was a real treasure for him. It was a wonderful story and I was glad I was able to give him something from his past.
ALL IN THE FAMILY
I have had a couple customers who were relatives of people who designed or created items I've had on auction. The first one was a lady whose grandfather created a claymation character from the past. I had viewmaster reels (only two of a set of 3) with this character on them and it was so neat to see the family of the creator get the bid.
Another one I can recall was a token I had on auction. I was pleasantly surprised again at the ending bid and found out that the successful bidder was in fact, a close relative of the person whose face was embossed on my token - Buffalo Bill Cody!
TAKES ALL KINDS TO MAKE THE WORLD GO ROUND
A recent auction was VERY interesting in that the person that bid on it is a 'unique' personality. I have acquired several movie theater one sheet posters and had one listed that was called "Working Girl$" .. about the prostitution industry. My winning bidder was .. you guessed it .. a NYC callgirl. She was very friendly and told me she was building a museum of memorabilia related to this 'oldest profession in the world'; paid me promptly and sent a very nice email following up her payment. You just never know who's buying your 'stuff' here; some transcations are wonderful stories .. and all in all .. every customer I've had has been friendly, honest and fun to work with. When this ceases to be fun; I think I'll find something else to do in the evenings after working my full time job!
BEAUTY AND DISTRUCTION - SUMMER 2000 FIRE
Last but not least, I would like to share with everyone, one of the most compelling pictures I've ever seen. This photograph was taken on the East Fork of the Bitterroot River between Darby and Sula in western Montana.
The photographer worked for the Forest Service and his name is John McColgan. The picture was taken from a bridge spanning the river with a digital camera. Because he was a government employee, and took the picture while working in that
capacity, he was not able to publish the picture but I think you'll agree with me and so many others, that this is one of the most awesome pictures ever taken and if he had not been working at the time or was a civilian photographer, he would have made a great deal of money from it. It's a wonderful thing that he decided to share it with the world .. I hope you find it as moving as I do.
Addendum to the above photo:
I thought you would all like to see how this scene looks now a couple years after this terrible fire. You can see how long it takes for a forest to re-green itself and just what devastation there was that summer of the year 2000.
