I began working with art glass 23 years ago.  I saw some small stained glass items that a co-worker was making and thought "wow, if I could learn to do that I could make all my own Christmas presents.  So, I set out to do just that and discovered that I had a real talent for do this sort of work and at the same time discovered that if I wanted to do very much of it, I was going to have to start selling some of it.  So, I opened shop up in a small arts and crafts co-op in the little coastal town of Coos Bay, Oregon.  It was here that I met my wife.

     After we married we moved to Eugene, Oregon and continued to grow the glass business as a half time business while I flew helicopters for the other half of the time.  It was here in Eugene where I was first introduced to glass etching.  There was an art glass store that had a sandblast cabinet that they rented out time on.  I began doing small pieces that I incorporated into my stained glass work.  However, that was as far as it went for the 10 years that we lived in Eugene.

      When the opportunity with my flying job came up to move to Boise, Idaho, I took it and moved the glass business along with ourselves.   I immediately began getting a lot of calls for etched glass.  However, I was not able to fill that niche because there was nowhere to rent sandblaster time here.  So, at the first opportunity, I invested in all the necessary equipment.   I was able to do window type panels of all sizes but was not able to do intricate designs on glassware because everything had to be cut out by hand using an exacto knife.  A few years ago at a Glasscrafters Expo in Las Vegas I came across a company that provided a photo mask and the equipment to make photo stencils and then suddenly I was in the etched glassware business.  Since that time we have done thousands upon thousands of glassware pieces of every type imaginable.

      At our business A Reflection In Glass I do all my own design work and with the help of a very good computer graphics program, I am able to do very detailed and intricate designs for our line of etched glassware products.  As a result of being a graduate of the US Naval Academy and the fact that I have two son-in-laws in the Air Force along with many other family members who have served in the military, I have invested a lot of time developing military related designs for etched glassware and that is a large portion of what I have in my store at http://stores.ebay.com/A-Reflection-In-Glass.   However, if you don't see exactly what you want, send me an inquiry and if there is any way that I can do it for you, I will.  Some of the products that you will see in my store came as a result of customer inquiries.
