November 14, 2008 - I closed my eBay store. BUT I moved ALL of my trims to Etsy. Search for me on Etsy under "Indiscretion." I have much better prices for my trim on there. You can still contact me on eBay if need be....
Me
My name is Mara. I've been wanting to design unusual and unforgettable clothing for quite some time. I spent many years studying art and the history of fashion, when all I wanted to do was create my own! I started making prom dresses I copied from Seventeen magazine in my early formative years for my Barbie. Ken didn't care, but she looked awesome!
I also strongly believe in dressing to fit my personality, meaning not mainstream. I was one of the few kids in my Jr. High School to wear lots of black (this was a long time ago...) and was constantly asked if I was going to a funeral.....

Background
My over-educational background:
BFA in Jewelry/Metalsmithing and Art History from the U of I, Champaign.
MA in Costume Studies/Decorative Arts from NYU.
Most of my classes were at the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I've also worked at different galleries and museums, have seen everything from ancient tribal clothing to Madonna's pointy bra, and have experienced several different kinds of art techniques from blowing glass to painting watercolors. I've also done a lot of travelling to other countries (yeah, I don't like to sit still), and picked up many costumes and textiles to reuse in other ways. I once went into a sari shop in Penang, and ended up walking out in a complete sari outfit, makeup and bindi to match - I'm sure the locals were amused!While studying at the Costume Institute, I also learned how to handle and care for costumes and textiles. As well, I had to figure out how clothing was put together and make a pattern based on a finished garment. This is much harder than it sounds. If you don't believe me, try it yourself!
I love to sew garments from scratch and like to experiment with different techniques, and reconstruct garments. I topstitch and serge; I have a Janome serger, a Pfaff 1469, my own hands and fingers, and I use a Fuji FinePix S5000 to take my photos. I take all my photos myself, sometimes of myself, and like to think I follow in the footsteps of Cindy Sherman, so don't laugh...

I believe in making the best quality creation that I can, and that pursuit of quality extends to how I pack things for shipping, and would be happy to giftwrap any item you purchase. And, my work area is pet-free and smoke-free.
I do not accept returns, so please read the descriptions carefully. If you are not pleased with your item, email me through Ebay and I will do my best to make it right.
AGAIN, although I try to give you as much information as I can about an item, if you need more information, do not hesitate to email me through Ebay.
Items get mailed out the day after you pay/transaction goes through.
I answer email inquiries right away and will leave feedback for every transaction.
I prefer Paypal but will also accept money orders and cashier's checks (U.S. only), see seller details on my auction pages for more details.
