About
Me
I became interested in genealogy when I was about 12 and
my grandmother shared with me some of my gr-gr-gr-gr
aunt's genealogical research from the 1940s. I was
fascinated that these people were my connections to the
past. Who were they? Where did they come from? What was
their life like way back then? But at that time, all we
had were names and dates, and while those were important facts,
they did not convey much about the people behind them.
So, my
personal journey backwards has not only included the vital
statistics, but the history of the areas where my ancestors
lived - the important events of the times which impacted their
lives, the history of the communities in which they settled, the
chronicles of the churches they attended... I found that all
these peripheral documents have provided valuable information on
my family history and filled in the blanks of what it must have
been like to live in those times.
As I did some
research for family friends, I realized that they too were
interested in more than just the stark names and dates, and
added some color to their family histories by researching local
history books and journals. By including local events in their
stories, I was able to give a context to their ancestors' lives.
I hope that
the local histories that I offer on Ebay will give others the
same opportunity to explore the past.
Lookups
As much as I enjoy researching, I just do not have the time to
answer all the requests that I receive in regards to specific
persons. When an index is available, I do provide the surnames
that are listed.
How to use
the CDs
First of all, you will need to have installed Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer. This free software can be downloaded at
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
After installing the software, place the CD in your CD drive, and double click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop. A window should pop up that will have the different drives that you have on your computer. One of those drives (usually drive D:) will be your CD drive, and the name of the CD should show by the letter of your CD drive. Double click on that, and you should see the
file(s) that are on the CD. Double click on the file and it will open up in your Adobe Acrobat Reader.
