| My passions in collecting are ART DECO, POTTERY VASES AND COPPER JEWELRY. I began collecting any copper objects as a young girl, over 35 yrs. ago. I have a '50's china cabinet which contains about 30-45 copper objects such as candlesticks and cool lighters. I also collected colorful vintage belts as a teenager and in my 20's. I loved thrift stores and garage sales as I still do today. In addition, I enjoy fleamarkets; live auctions; estate sales; antique malls/stores; and eBay of course.
My biggest collection today is copper jewelry, perhaps numbering 125-200+ pieces (earrings count as one piece). I do not collect for the name or signature but for the style that I like. Besides copper jewelry, I also collect goldtone, silvertone, plastic, & beaded costume jewelry. For some reason I value my costume jewelry much more than my fine gold and silver. I guess because the geometric and other designs are more appealing and so artistic. I wear the jewelry quite often but some I have never worn, sorry to say. I do design and make jewelry and also repair vintage pieces.
My favorite pottery is Roseville Futura which is very art deco. I own about 4 experimental or clones but none of the huge gorgeous ones.
One of my precious and fabulous finds is a pottery vase I paid about $21 for at a garage sale. The seller was the daughter of an antique dealer. The vase is flask or bottle shape, very old with crazing and painted birds, flowers, peacocks & mountain. She said it was Persian, no age known.
I had it appraised at an Auctioneers Convention in Grand Rapids, MI and an expert there said it was Chinese and 100-300 yrs. old and valued at approx. $1000-1500. My picture was in the local paper with a story about the pottery appraisal and the convention. I had it appraised a few yrs. later at that old defunct antique TV show "Treasures in your Attic", while I was visiting family out West. I waited in line way too long for bad news. One of the lead TV appraisers said it was Portuguese and $50. An appraiser at the Midland, MI, Antique festival said it was likely Italian; I forgot the amount but it was low. Anyways, I love this pottery and perhaps someday will find out what it really is!! For now, I say it is Chinese & worth a bundle. heheheheheh

| I first had selling space in an antique store while working as a state employee in the early to mid '90's. But, I had lots of fun selling in person at the Royal Oak, Michigan Garage Ramp Outdoor antique sale 2 summers in the row. I missed last summer due to a 1st Detrio Renuion (none for 3-4 decades) in Pennyslvania. I met relatives that I had never met. Quite a gathering! to say the least.
********eBay news********* I was first on eBay 15-17 yrs. ago and became an avid eBayer since then. I first sold on eBay as my old name ---blank to protect privacy---@aol.com (now disappeared from computer memory). I had over 500 feedback, mostly buying feedback. Now I have more than 1400 feedback as jaguara77 (in use about 8 yrs.), maybe about 90% selling feedback, I don't know. I do estimate my TOTAL FEEDBACK at about 2000. I love eBay for the great selection and honesty of sellers especially in the jewelry & watches category, also pottery & glass. My husband is an electronics buff/buyer/fixer and he helped me first learn how to do the photos on eBay which was my obstacle for 3-4 yrs.
I specialize in copper jewelry and '50's brightly colored thermoset (plastic) jewelry.
Thank you and Good Luck!, fellow eBayers!!
p.s. I find the treasure hunt the most fun of anything; I have only talked to one other antiquer like me. My favorite sayings are "Find of the day...of the week...of the year" etc. My family jokes that I buy ONE to sell ... TEN for me. The business smart ones enjoy the selling the most. I do aspire to be like them. | |
