My first love, and this is a crowded bandwagon, is the Beatles (hence my ebayname, JAMES paul mccartney, john WINSTON lennon). I was a sixth-grader when they assaulted us through the unsuspecting Ed Sullivan. Then, being able to watch, firsthand, the British Invasion unfold and the subsequent re-birth of the American rock and roll scene, was a privilege that wouldn be realized until hindsight set in. (If I just knew then what I know now.)
Then the nostalgia and reminiscing begins. The next logical (?) step is to try to possess all those bits and pieces that you remembered and enjoyed. There go the weekends, dedicated to your quest to find that little relic that, only 10 years before, was selling at the department store for 79 cents.
Being a collector in Colorado has its up- and down-sides. A smaller population base lessens the competition for those rare finds. But that same limited population also lessens the availability. Also, since most Coloradoans are transplants from other parts of the country, many of them sold their music stashes to lighten their covered wagons on that long trek across the plains.
A good friend and I were lucky enough to be able to ravage most of the state, relatively unchallenged, for over 20 years. His interest in 50s/Holly and mine in 60s/Beatles allowed us to plunder as a team without the conflict of coveting each other vinyl. What A Teamhe hands me a VJ498 and I hand him a Thatl Be The Day EPcollecting as it should be.
So now, after accumulating dozens of boxes of these little pretties, Ie discovered that, for me, the rush was the hrill of the hunt All I keeping now are the Beatle toys (lunch boxes, dolls, pinball, etc.) but it time to release the rest of it back into the collecting wild. Although Ie already sold a sizeable amount of the Beatle vinyl, I still have lots of other British invasion and American goodies left to tempt you connoisseurs out there. And years of upgrading have assured that most items are in surprisingly nice condition because the beat copies were weeded out long ago. (p.s. I LOVE promos and picture sleeves, so youl see quite a few of those pop up.)
Being a buyer and a seller for years, Ie learned how to (and how not to) pack and ship these treasures. I use only commercial 45 & LP mailers and the contents are always vinyl-bagged inside the carton. Singles and albums are always removed from their sleeves/covers and bagged separately. I also try to charge actual rates for shipping and packaging. Averaged out, I lucky if I break even on these charges. Nothing turns me off faster than someone selling a nifty $5 single and then wanting $5 for shipping. All I request from my buyers is that they consider insurance on items that warrant it. And my personal rule on grading is f I purchased this as described, would I be happy?
Thanks to those whoe read this far. I would like to close withy envy to those who became aware in the fifties.y pity for those who missed out on the sixtiesmy congratulations to those who have rediscovered all of it.
