Jan Karpisek (1981) is a Czech painter and performer. Since his childhood he's very much interested in Asian martial arts and spirituality. He started to paint in the age of 17 at the Grammar School. Then he studied Faculty of Fine Arts at Brno University of Technology, in studio led by one of the most important Czech contemporary painters Martin Mainer (1959).
Karpisek participated on more than 30 collective shows (the most prestigious was International Biennale of Contemporary Art 2005 in Prague, website: e-flux.com) His biggest solo show took place in the Gallery Artkontakt in Brno (www.jankarpisek.cz/english/artkontakt.html)
Karpk's awards: 2003 : Prize of Decan for the extraordinary bachelor artwork, 2004 : 2nd Prize in the Competition of young artists Artkontakt.
His works are placed in a several private collections worldwide and his painting Mars No.2 (A Dispute of Iron Workers on Mars) is in the National Gallery in Prague.
