Fashion Forsaken

I was thumbing through a magazine at a friend's house yesterday. It was a magazine I had never given a second look. I won't give the name However it rhymes with Carey Bear. As I monotonously turned each slick page I realized mid way through that I couldn't relate to any of these women. Do I have my own demographic I thought to myself?

Who are these so called perfect bronze skinned, blemish and fat free women that I have never come close to achieving? Mind you, you won't hear the F (fat) word much from me as it is about as close to a sin for me to say as it is for an anorexic to have another bite. My second thought as I hypnotically flipped through more advertisements of how to lose weight was where do I fit in?

Okay so maybe we, meaning me and my fellow voluptuans, have a couple magazines out there, but frankly I find myself yawning by the index page. I mean, how many articles about clothes I cannot afford be entertaining? Oh let us not forget the countless articles on making hips look more slender. No no no! These are MY curves and I am hell bent on showing them. This brings me back to my point. Not being able to relate to these images at first made me feel inadequate and self loathing but sitting here and reflecting for a few makes me realize how beautiful the world is in a mathematical sense of shapes with not only the rigid right angle women but also our softly curved and circular women.

Is there a moral to my little rant? Most definitely there is. I would have liked to see some voluptuans grace at least some of the publication. To me this does not mean size 12 as Carey Bear seems to think as they find ways for the size 12's to slim down by wearing a jacket over their graceful hips. I enjoy fashion and looking good just as much as the next gal and hope that the powers that be sometimes hear the voices of the fashion forsaken.
