The
Jeff Claassen Gallery & Boutique is located in San Luis Obispo,
CA. It's on the central coast. If you look on a map we're the halfway
point between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Jeff grew up in SLO and
in 2000 moved to Los Angeles. After four and half years he moved back
to SLO. Los Angeles is great, but after awhile it wears you down.
In
November 2004 Jeff went into business for himself and opened an art
gallery in San Luis Obispo. It began as a project to showcase his
own work, but has since grown into showing a few other artists as
well as expanding into selling shirts, hats, skateboards, handmade
wallets, art books, handbags, alternative art supplies, etc. It's been going great! San
Luis Obispo is full of landscape and scenery artists so Jeff has been
showing this little town something new and exciting. The locals
have been very supportive.
About
the art and other stuff:
Jeff loves making stuff and is a huge advocate of the D.I.Y. movement.
He believes in doing as much of the work as possible, including stretching
his own canvases, cutting wood for his painting panels, burning his
own silkscreens and doing all screenprinting for his shirts and print
editions.
Running
a gallery has become a full time job for Jeff, but he still takes
part in other gallery shows and art events if he can.
