Wow! Things have changed a lot since we first began selling on ebay!
Botanical Journey is the culmination of a hobby gone horribly wrong, and a dream of "not having a real job" - for Jesse, anyway! Jesse has now left his 12 year professional career as an Emergency Room/Trauma RN, to run the business full time. Patty is in her 22nd year as a Registered Sonographer - can't wait until she retires so she can begin pulling her weight in the greenhouses! (Just kidding sweetie!!!!)
We travel the country and world - sweating, bleeding, picking spines out of our hands, and walking endless nursery rows to find the very best plant specimens we can for our customers and friends. This is what seperates us from our competition - we don't stop at emails and phone calls, we actually hand select our plants when we can, and have them hand selected for us, by trusted friends and associates, when we can't get to the plants themselves. Thousands of road and air miles are logged each year in our pursuit. The end result is a constantly changing selection of collector and beginner plants, available to all. We stand behind our plants, take care of problems when they arise, and all to our customers satisfaction, period.
The Future.......
We have trips to S. Africa, Madagascar, Thailand, as well as many USA trips planned for the next year. While "not having a real job" actually equals triple the work, the work is on our terms and is our passion. We have painstakingly cultivated relationships with many domestic and international growers to allow us access to plant specimens normally reserved for the elite few.
Ebay has proven to be an excellent medium to offer shippable sized plants to the nation. Most of what we offer are one of a kind specimens that are unique in their sculptural appearance - eBay allows us to post photographs of individual specimens, more conveniently than on a website.
Shipping.....
We ship USPS Priority Mail, and, in an effort to be more eco-friendly (as requested by our customers), and keep shipping costs reasonable, now use shredded paper, and recycled newspaper as packing materials. Gone are the messy foam peanuts that we all love to hate! We also offer heat packs in colder months (just ask) at no charge to you. Our plants arrive in excellent condition, period.
Price fluctuations....
Long time customers will tell you that our prices fluctuate - sometimes quite a bit. We base our prices on several things: Market changes, avaiability, quantity on hand, size, and, on caudiciforms, the sculptural shape, quality, and texture of a given specimen. We do our very best to keep prices reasonable, and as low as we can. Air frieght from Africa is quite a bit different than from Thailand, for example.
Give us a try.....
and you'll be glad you did! Take a look at our feedback - there's a reason you see many of the same people retuning time after time. Question? Looking for something that you don't see? Ask us - we'll do our best to accommodate your needs!
About Visiting...
We have had to limit the numbers of visitors due to the heavy work schedule, and increased construction expansion this season. If you would like to visit, please contact us as far in advance as possible so we can make arrangements, if time permits. Please, do not just show up and let yourself onto the property without prior scheduling! "Beware of Dog" means just that. More and more people are meeting Bealle, our Catahoula Leopard Dog - the hard way! She doesn't get to hunt hogs, but sure doesn't mind hunting the unannounced visitor! If you get past her, there is also the twin terror of the Gryffin, the Corgie and Frankie, the 9 pound Weiner Dog. If you manage to pass through those three gates of Hell unscathed, Lord have mercy on you if Ozzy, the 34 pound Shih-tzu-zilla has to get off of his bed and venture outside to take care of business! Seriously, this is our home and our business, and Bealle is rather, shall we say, protective, especially of Jesse. Thanks for your understanding!
Other stuff....
We also have a wide array of interests to keep us on our toes: Skydiving, maintaning/breeding a sizable collection of venomous snakes and giant tortoises, fossil collecting, etc. We are always busy! .....Thanks!.......Jesse & Patty Black
