Thorns of Wisdom

She raises her head towards the heavens
As her petals gracefully unfold.
Innocence blossoms into vulnerability
She believes that the sun won't grow cold.

A petal is torn from her bosom
"He loves me" is what she believes
Unattended, the petal shrivels
His treasure is all that he sees.

Intoxicated by her fragrance
He plucks them all one by one
Never realizing that what he was doing
Would conceive thorns instead of love.

Her pain has not made her bitter
Her stem still stands tall and proud
She'll bloom once again in the springtime
Thorns of wisdom will protect her now.
