Way back when...

I used to go to the dump with my Uncle in the summer months while spending time at their vacation home in Maryland. We had to take our trash to "the dump" and I always loved to go and would insist that things thrown in the dump were not "trash" but good things! I remember seeing a doll's baby carriage and an ironing board. Surely, I said, someone could use those things. But, I was never allowed to TOUCH anything, because it was too dirty and dangerous for "little girls" to be in there!!!

Then there was the trash on the curb....

while walking home from elementary school. There was this house that had tons of boxes and bags of STUFF they were putting out for the trashmen to come pick up. Well, I dove into that trash and rooted and rooted and found a pair of ceramic candle wall sconces. I proudly scooped them up and ran home to present them to my Mother. Without hesitation, she told me to take them back and put them in the trash where they belonged. I was devastated, and began my plea for Mom to reconsider. Well, I guess seeing my disappointment, and not wanting to upset me, she said we could keep them, but she needed to do some work to them. So, Mom got some paint and went to work, restoring them to "beauties" and they hung in our home for at least 25 years. Thanks for believing me MOM!

and picking in the trash to attending auctions, church sales and yard sales to find the vintage items I remember as a child. I love vintage linens and buy many items, sometimes in lots just to obtain one item I want. I can then offer some of my findings to fellow collectors of the past. As a member of the Vintage Tablelcoth Lovers Club, I adhere to the Tablecloth Rating System and apply their guidelines to all of the textiles I sell. I have to admit, I have the most patient husband, for putting up with all the boxes and bags and taking over the house with all of my "junque". Please take a moment to look at some of the treasures I have found and see if anything is to your liking.
