Jungle Beaks was started for a few reasons.

When we first bought our birds we were not told the importance of toys for the health and well being of our new feathered friends.

As new bird owners we found that it was not just our responsibility to provide our birds with Love, attention, food and water but that we also must provide them with the brain stimulation that such brilliant creatures needed, as well as a way to entertain them when we could not do it ourselves.

So, we set off to fill our birds cages with lots of toys and it did not take long for us to learn MANY lessons when it came to GOOD, FUN and SAFE birds toys.  Our first surprise was that toys for birds were MUCH more expensive than for dogs, cats and pretty much every other type of pet, even the food was much more.

Well we learned quickly that we would not be coming home with buckets full of toys like we had done many times before with our dogs or the bags full of new and coolest stuff we would get for the fish aquarium.  Bird toys were going have to be bought in moderation, especially seeing all of our birds were big.

However, what we also found was that while the toys were very expensive at the pet shops, they were just not very big or would last basically NO TIME at all. But little did we realize that the WORST was yet to come and keep coming.

The DANGERS:

To our HORROR those cute and expensive toys we kept finding were also becoming our NIGHTMATE!  We found ourselves doing emergency calls to the vet to get parts taken off of their beaks which were stuck, shaking like a leaf on a tree on a windy day as we had to cut strings, ropes and other materials from around the feet, neck and chests, in which they got tangled up in.

We could not understand how such toys were able to be sold for pets and that is when we learned that ANYONE could sell toys for birds/pets and it was up to the makers to decide to make SAFE toys or just make money. So we either had to stop giving our birds toys, which they so desperately need or continue to risk their health and safety.

And that is when we said ENOUGH! If toy makers were not going to make safer toys for birds than WE WILL!  Of course learning what was safe for birds and where to get parts is a whole big story all by itself.

It did not take us long to also realize that the time and expense to make our own toys was not going to be easy but we love our birds & decided we had NO CHOICE. We also realized that were NOT alone in this dilemma and decided that to help cover some of the expenses we would make some toys for other bird owners who also needed GOOD, FUN but most importantly SAFE toys for their feathered family members.  And that is when we started our bird toy adventure.

Through the years we have learned MANY things, the dos and don'ts and what is safe and what is not and so on. 

Sadly though, even today we will still see MANY people selling things for birds that are NOT safe for them. While we want to believe it is because they do not know they are unsafe, but the truth is while they claim they care about bird safety, it is our belief that many sell them for the $$MONEY$$ with little to NO regard for bird safety.

Although we will not mention any names, we can tell you that they are all over the internet and even on ebay. Of course this is not ebays or the internets fault and we certainly do not want government regulations placed upon toy makers, we would rather educate bird owners so that they can avoid bad toys and even bad toy makers.

Over the next 60 days we plan to dedicate an entire section to toys and parts that should be AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS. Our website is being remodeled at this time but as soon as it is done we will let you know.

WHERE WE ARE TODAY

It has now been 8 1/2 years since our journey began and today we are happy to be able to not only have and sell GOOD, FUN and SAFE toys for our birds and your but also to bring to you the parts in which YOU can make GOOD, FUN and SAFE toys for your birds and others as well.
