Thank you for an opportunity to introduce myself. I am Joy Shivar and I, along with my husband George, own JustaJoy Historical Treasures. I have always had a love for items from American History and after a lifetime of collecting, I began a direct retail business in Charlotte, NC, in 2001. The business has grown substantially since and is often featured at many antique shows throughout the Southeast. The primary items we offer at shows include items from America's Civil War, Black History, the World Wars, presidential items and colonial period pieces. All items are always guaranteed to be authentic and as represented.

JustaJoy Historical Treasures has been quite successful during this period, and as the business has grown, the need for an avenue to be able to match items back to families became evident. With the help and encouragement of George, who has recently retired from a legal software business, we launched
in early 2007. The website is designed to offer an opportunity for genealogists and others to take the leap from "information to artifacts" in order to actually own an ancestral item.
Thanks to many special relationships with other antique dealers established over many years, we are able to procure surname-related consignments to make the site succeed. Nearly every antique dealer has something that would be cherished by a family member, but, until now, there has not been a way to make the match. This site is the culmination of a dream to become this matching source to the edification of both the antique dealers (and individuals) who own the items and the families for whom the items would mean so much. The majority of the items we list on e-bay have a surname relationship, also.

Both George and I are avid historians and active students of our own genealogy and understand the joy that studying the past can bring. Both of us have direct ancestors from the Civil War and George has an ancestor who was a Colonel with Francis Marion (the Swamp Fox) during the Revolutionary War. George also has an ancestor who is buried in Camden, SC very near the brother-in-law of Abraham Lincoln, a doctor who served the Confederacy (as did 4 other of Mary Todd Lincoln's brothers.)
I was raised in Boonesboro, Kentucky on the banks of the Kentucky River surrounded by the history of Daniel Boone. I attibute this to the source of my love of American history. My genealogical studies have revealed ancestors on both sides of the Civil War which was quite typical in Kentucky.
We are dedicated to properly preserving the past in an honest, forthright, broad-minded and fair manner to the best of our abilities. It is our plan to offer high quality investment grade items that will be heirlooms for generations to come. We thank you for participating in our dream and we sincerely hope you will find a very special treasure.
