My name is Jeannette. My passion is crochet. I have been crocheting since 1972 and designing my own items shortly thereafter. At first my designing was just taking a pattern and changing the colors to make it look different. My first completely original design was a sweater coat that I have made dozens of since. Later I practiced different stitch combinations and began creating all kinds of new things. Then I began teaching crochet at a local senior center and an assisted living facility. Some of my original designs have taken form as purses, diaper bags, micro mitts, laundry bags, baby sweater sets, baby dresses, hooded baby afghans, pillow pocket afghans, stadium blankets, soda can covers, hats, shawls, ponchos, jackets, vests, sweaters, mufflers, wall art, wall organizers, stuffed toys and dolls, wheelchair and walker totes. In 1996, I won honorable mention from Hershner's Grand National Contest for three of my afghan designs. My favorite items to design are baby blankets and purses.

I made this one for my husband while he was sick

The reason that I have had so much time on my hands is because I have polycystic ovarian syndrome which causes sugar and thyroid imbalances. So for years I had chronic fatigue and insomnia from these issues. I wanted to be productive so I continued to practice my crochet. When my husband's health went south, it gave me something to do at the hospital. In 2003, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. To my advantage the toxins that had caused the cancer had been trapped inside my uterus by the PCOS. Unable to get into my lymph nodes the cancer was unable to spread and I made a full recovery. Now between my health and my husband's health issues I am unable to work; so crochet comes in handy as a pastime and a way to make spare change.
