Welcome to Just Yesterdays Antiques and Collectibles
Come On In & Get to Know Me !
~Life is a journey and my life has taken a different path recently with the loss of my dear husband of almost 30 years. Thank you for your encouragment and supportive notes while he was ill.~
My background in antiques & collectibles goes back to my childhood in a very small town in Missouri. My greatgrandmother & grandmother babysat me in the mid 50's & early 60's. My greatgrandmother's home was Victorian and a child had to be careful! She & my greatgrandfather owned a general store, which was family run & I spent much of my first 9 years shyly behind the skirts of both Grammy (great grandmother) & Gramma (grandmother) in the store where I was quite busy rearranging the threads & the embroidery floss- much to their dismay-so many colors to go together in so many pretty combinations!! My mom taught me how to sew on a treadle sewing machine & could sew a formal dress by making a pattern from newspaper if she didn't have the pattern she wanted ( & did it several times!) and also loved doing crafts in what spare time she had while time raising 5 kids! My grandmother crocheted-while watching tv without dropping a stitch, which was amazing to me; and taught me to do embroidery work.
Much later: I had a booth in an antique store in southern California for several years, until the owner lost her lease. She used to ask me what my specialty would be in my booth and I could only tell her that it was whatever caught my fancy at the time! She always liked to see what I was bringing in next & never knew what to expect!! At the close of the store I thought I'd "take a little break" since I also worked full time. And while I was taking some time off, my husband retired and we moved closer to our daughter in the beautiful hill country area of Texas. So be careful when you decide to "take a little break" because you never know what can happen!!
And until recently we enjoyed traveling this road together! The together part was the shopping at estate sales & auctions-my husband learned much more than he probably ever wanted to know about antique & vintage linens!! But he kept on smiling & driving :)
My favorites are anything to do with needlework or sewing! I love selling and learning about antique and vintage linens, and I've still much to learn. Also I'm fond of old silver, old glass, vintage ladies items-jewelry, gloves, hats, hankies etc.,old books, vintage dishes and the list goes on and on and on! So I buy things I like and hope you will like them too as I bring them to you at auction!
Ebay should be pleasant & fun for everyone involved & My shoppers are just the absolute best!! I'm so impressed with how nice, courteous and helpful people have been. And I appreciate hearing from you seasoned Ebayers with information regarding patterns or makers (Thank You, you know who you are!!:) ). I've made mistakes here and there and I'm sure I'll make more, I don't profess to know everything, so I appreciate the help I get from you folks!!!!
