How did I end up with such a large Portishead collection?

Well, I started trying to collect the band, and couldn't find a decent discography on the web in 1995. So I started one. Heh. Then I justified all my eBay purchases of Portishead collectibles by figuring it was for the good of mankind (via my webpage). Heh.

When the new album came out, I was shocked - even though the band had not officially broken up, I had assumed they'd never record again. I didn't love the new album so much, though. I didn't particularly feel like collecting the new stuff. I hadn't kept up my webpage for years (as you'll see if you visit!)

I really, really loved my collection, but I don't have the same feelings about it now. I decided it's time to release these wonderful possessions to someone else who feels passionate about them.

Well, once I got the record collecting bug I also started collecting PJ Harvey, who was my other favorite artist at the time. I once got a chance to meet her after an extremely intimate performance in a recording studio (30 audience members). I tried in vain to win tickets, and then miraculously, an old friend from junior high reappeared in my life and she had two tickets! I waited over an hour with my friend at the stage door hoping PJ would autograph a few items for me. After being told many times by the security guy that PJ had left already, he came out one last time and said "she'll be out in 5 minutes." And she was, and I got a couple items signed by her and John Parish!
