Kathie McCollough
Creating has been the joy and passion of my life. The subject or the medium used never seems to be a concern. Color, shapes, textures are all exciting. Studying the edge of a leaf or the shine in an eye is always an adventure. I have often thought that I created best from found objects, whether I was painting them or building with them.
On Going Series
hru My fathers Eyes was started after my father death in 1996. I wanted to paint his portrait, but couldn, it was too painful. But going through his old photos I came to know a man in his thirties, with a young family, traveling the world. This series is a celebration of his life.
opcorn, this group of paintings was started in 1989. Beginning with a realistic view and then allow them to become many things. I put them away and rediscovered them 10 years later when I decided to add more pieces. Never will I look at Popcorn in the same way it can always inspire me.
The Construction series is ragments become themselves unlike any of my other work. These pieces are composed of found and collected treasures that neither my father nor I could part with. Incorporated within some of them are small portraits. Some are constructions with washes of oil paint that I find images of faces and bodies. The most difficult part of this creative process is not to impose but to allow.
The latest series "Chance"... This new kitten has inspired me not only as a subject but her curiosity and energy has given me an adventurous spirit to express in color and attitude.
