| My name is Kerry & I love animals (especially cats! >^..^<-I ain't "lion!"), classic American "muscle cars", music, & gardening. I enjoy looking for earthy/crunchy (hippie-esque), antique, & classic sort of things that can be found on eBay. I love to shop for bargains, especially when it comes to gifts, household, gardening & pet items (especially stuff for kitties), as I have an unbelievably fixed income due to disability caused by a severe auto-immune disease. As an eBay buyer & seller, I am "painfully" honest & do my best to avoid negativity, but if it is warranted, I will have my say! If your of the sort that wants to debate or discuss things to the point of futility, please move on. In my opinion, if you are selling things that are not what you claim them to be, you are akin to a thief. Being truthful & honest is not only virtuous, it's the best policy when buying or selling things on eBay & will help to keep your customer base growing as well as assuring the sellers that you can be trusted to do business with.If you have good deals on gardening goodies, cat thingies (delights for both felines & humans), or artsy craftsy stuff, search me out & hook me up! I am hoping to perhaps sell some plants, cat things, restaurant equipment, & the occasional household goodies in the near future. | My take on eBay & eBay sellers, both good & bad!
I've been using eBay since 1997 & have seen it grow into this wonderful "cyber" shopping mall with goodies from around the world. I've met & have done business with folks who lived in the same town & with folks who are on the other side of the world. I've got some awesome deals & I'd been had by a few shady sorts by ways payments & hidden shipping costs & charges. While for the most part, I use eBay for buying stuff & occasionally selling stuff, I also look to eBay to also be connected with those with similar interests & hope to start up such things as a seed exchange & gardening advice for all of the "gardening geeks," to pick up a good chat with advice & admiration, perhaps even swap pictures with fellow cat loving freaks! I also figure it would be good to connect with eBayers who seek to do business with folks that can be trusted & perhaps strike up a sort of friendship with others who are like minded. I figure that I can help your eBay experience as a buyer or seller by sharing my experience. In the time I'd been using eBay, I'm lucky enough to have met (& befriended quite a few) some great sellers who use their eBay based businesses as their main source of livelihood & I look forward to being a returning customer as well as spreading the word to others & helping the businesses of these most desrving sellers grow. It brings me some sense of pride knowing that I am helping others to keep a roof over their heads & food in their bellies on top of getting a great deal on something I want or need. There are so many scammers & swindlers out there, and some have a huge customer base, not because they deserve it, but because they sell huge lots of things, while the smaller & more deserving sellers are overlooked. I've paid a little bit more for an item from one of my favored sellers over getting the same thing from a huge eBay seller "store" because I know that there is integrity & honesty as well as appreciation for my business from the seller. It's great to be remembered by a seller when you return to them, to these sellers you're a name, not just an item number. I've also learned the hard way to look at everything in item descriptions, especially the shipping details, as it seems that there are plenty of folks who thrive on the "bait & switch" of items where they will use a "stock" picture of something & what you get is nothing at all like what was pictured & then there are sellers who just LOVE to swindle you with a low cost for the item & then stick it to you with shipping charges. Some even go so far as to charge for "handling" which is absurdly allowed by eBay. So, while you may have gotten an awesome price on an item for just a few dollars, you're stuck in shock when you see on the invoice that you have been charged a "handling charge" of $25 or more! learn from my & my friends' experiences & read ALL of the item description & unless you are happy with paying lots of money for nothing, avoid those with "flat fee" shipping & those who utilize "handling charges." eBay is a great place with deals to be had/made so long as everyone aspires for honesty & good communication. Seek out sellers & buyers that not only have good feedback, but those who answer your questions in a timely manner & truthfully. I feel it is a better seller who will admit "I don't know" & keeps up a friendly conversation over the one who seems insulted or bothered by your questions or just ignores you completely. I also wish to point out that international sales are nothing to be feared (although I do recommend that you use PayPal or a similar payment) & can make for a very good bargain & a neat way to connect with people from all around the world. Remember that folks in various parts of the world have access to beautiful & designer items for a much cheaper price & I've seen some of the most beautiful antiques being sold by eBayers in the UK, Ireland & Europe for delightful prices! Just remember to keep in mind the warnings of never cashing a check made out for more than the amount of payment & sending cash or another check for the overpayment unless the check has proven to be legitimate (I'd suggest waiting 2 weeks since the check clears for payment), as this seems to be a favored scam of UK & European immigrants, whereupon they make a purchase of a small price item, under $20 & then send a fake check, they especially favor sending a counterfeit "cashier's check" in the amount of hundreds to a few thousand dollars, whereupon they will say they made a mistake & sent the wrong check or amount, but you can keep a hefty percentage if you would be so kind as to send the remainder in cash or by Western Union. Remember eBay can be a fun & wonderful experience, but just as it is in "reality," not every deal or seller is going to be good & fair & eBay offers anonymity which attracts a few bad apples. If you are uncomfortable with anything an eBay buyer or seller is saying, selling, or has written, contact eBay ASAP & let them know. If you suspect or know an eBay auction is bogus/false or misleading, contact eBay & let them know. You can save a buyer from being swindled & stop a bad seller from taking advantage of others. I also like to let eBayers know when I appreciate something they have made or are selling by sending a quick contact note. There are so many talented people selling their wares here & everyone likes to get good feedback or advice from the public, even those who can only wish to afford the asking price of some items, & perhaps by contacting the talented seller, they may be able to make something for you within your price range or work out a payment plan, who knows? I believe that being nice will get you further in life than being a nasty or shady sort trying to take advantage of the kidness of others. Remember to print out or write down the names of sellers you like or have had a positive experience with, so that you can return to them in the future. I know that I look forward to returning to sellers I had a good deal with, especially those who appreciate my business. As lots of folks say here on eBay: Have Fun & Happy Bidding! |
