Kipuka Trading
Dealers of precious objects and beautiful things. Specializing in jewelry from Tibet, India and Nepal.
What's a "Kipuka" anyway?
In a Hawaiian landscape, a "Kipuka" (pronounced "kee-poo-kah") is created when an area of the lush ,green forest is isolated and surrounded by the vastness of a lava flow. A Kipuka exists as it's own entity, an isolated oasis in a sea of black lava rock, with it's own thriving flora, fauna, and eco system.
Similarly, my company geographically exists in the middle of the Pacific Ocean- situated between Asia and North America.
Living in Hawai'i and being influenced by the Hawaiian culture , the "Aloha" Spirit, and the awesome beauty of these islands,I thought that a Hawaiian name would be appropriate for my company.
Thus Kipuka Trading was conceived.
My dream is that Kipuka Trading not only continue to thrive and grow as a business, but will also develop into a socially conscious company, giving back to the communities and artisans of the Himalayas through grass roots programs and fair trade.
Recently, Kipuka Trading began working in concert with the Thuk Je-Choling Monastery, Manjushri Di-Chen School, Tara Temple and the Venerable Drubthob Rinpoche's latest endeavor of a new Monastery in Kathmandu. The procees of many of the items in our online catalogue at www.kipukatrading.com, go directly to benefit these institutions.
The Venerable Drubthob Rinpoche was born in 1929 in Lhoga Dranag in Central Tibet. In 1996, Rinpoche founded a monastic school at Pharping near the Tara temple. The young monks range in age from 8-16 yrs. old and come from variuos ethnic, social and regional backgrounds of Tibet and Nepal. Each child here has his own story to tell about the poor financial, ill health and hardships he has faced in early life. The students can eventaully continue their higher education in the institutions of higher learning, such as Drepung Loseling Monastery in India.
If you are interested in sponsoring a monk or making a donation, please contact Yeshi Tharchen at Manjushri Di-Chen School, whitelotushere@yahoo.com or drubthob@ccsl.com.np. Donations are also accepted in the United States, please contact kkwing@kipukatrading.com for contact information.
Please feel free to email with any questions or feedback. I would love to hear from you!
