My name is Kathy Isabell, and I was born in 1961 in Arlington, Virginia. I grew up in Maryland near the Chesapeake Bay, and enjoyed boating, fishing and horseback riding as a child. I attended the University of Maryland and received a B.S. in Agriculture and Natural Resources Management. After that, I went to work for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, where I became an expert in cow poop. That distinction makes me an absolute magnet at cocktail parties. I have lived in North Carolina, Florida, Idaho, Wyoming and Vermont, and now I am semi-retired and I live with my cats and dogs in (mostly) sunny Kansas City, Kansas. I love it here among the friendly people and lovely climate. I love history, which is why I started collecting postcards and photos, and later on, selling, to share them with others. I am especially interested in Kansas City postcards, because I like to locate old landmarks and photograph them as they are today. I am interested in street scenes, buildings and photos of homes primarily pre-1950. I have expanded my eBay trading from my original interest in vintage postcards and photographs to antiques, collectibles and books. Sometimes I just have regular junque. :) I don't always have things listed on eBay, but keep checking back from time to time -- I sometimes get behind in Life, the Universe & Everything and it takes me a while to get back around to eBay again. In the meantime, you may be entertained by visiting one of my other websites. I have posted hundreds of my favorite finds from my personal collection of postcards on the web for use as free screen savers and wallpaper at WebShots. Other stuff about me: I collect tacky retro decorative items from the 50's, 60's and 70's. I like to sew & craft things and I'm a decent cook. I love horses & used to have a little horse business breeding spotted mustangs and mustang crosses. I have four dogs: a Boston terrier, two boxers and an obnoxious dachshund-Jack Russell mix. My dogs are my therapy. They give me peace and calmness, and help me to recover from the stress of the busy world. I love being their pack leader -- it is a great honor. :) I have 4 cats too! That's a lot of cats but we all get along. I'm active in my church, which is Trinity United Methodist. I do volunteer work as often as I can. Some of the things I volunteer for include reading programs for inner city kids, cooking & serving food to the homeless, driving the church bus, helping with city festivals and events that promote diversity, and really just doing anything that helps those who have less than the rest of us. :) I've also been a volunteer with the The Pet Connection, a no-kill animal shelter in Mission, Kansas. If you love animals and want to help, you can go to their web site and make a donation! My dream is eventually to save enough money to go back to Wheatland, Wyoming to retire permanently. My eBay sales are one way I am working toward that goal. Why Wheatland? It's where my husband and I met and were married, and where I spent some of the happiest years of my life. It is a lovely small town with friendly people, surrounded by mountains, lakes and abundant wildlife. My husband passed away in 2001 and is buried there. It would be so nice to enjoy the peace of being nearby, and to be able to drive through the Laramie Mountains again, like we loved to do so well until we had to move away in 1997. eBay is a wonderful global flea market and "sandbox for grownups" to play in. I have met many fabulous and fascinating people here from around the world, both buyers and sellers, and I cherish the opportunity to be a part of such a great community. I keep a world map on my wall where I have kept track of all the people I have ever had contact with on the internet, both in and out of eBay -- and I have logged 77 countries to date. eBay accounts for many of those countries. It's a great window for cultural exchange, both in physical goods, economic influence, and the best of all, friendship. :) Some of my buyers and sellers have been exceptionally kind and generous at trying times, and I sincerely appreciate those individuals who went out of their way to reach out personally even though they were complete strangers. It's the little things like that that restore my faith in a world that is often difficult to be in. Thank you! God bless everyone of all faiths, everywhere. Numbers 6:24-26 |
