Welcome Friends Old and New
I am trying to research this silver cane top, owned by a local artist, who is now deceased, for a value, so I can put it up to ebay auction. 
More pictures in this album. Half were took inside, and other half were took outside, in a more natural light.

John D. Barrow (1824-1906)
John Dodgson Barrow was born in New York City, and came to Skaneateles in 1839. He went to England for his schooling, and began a lifelong study of painting. In New York City, he opened a studio next to that of portrait artist Charles Loring Elliott. He was influenced by Elliott and also by George Inness, a member of the Hudson River School, who encouraged his interest in landscape painting. He returned to Skaneateles in the 1880's,where he continued to paint, and designed the Soldiers and Sailors Monument in Lake View Cemetery, including the bronze statue at its top, dedicated in 1895. In 1900, he designed and built, at his own expense, the John D. Barrow Art Gallery to display his paintings. The gallery, a glimpse back in time, is at the back of the Skaneateles Library.

Puff the magic dragon who lived by the sea and frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honalee... Little Jackie Paper loved that rascal Puff and brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff. Together they would travel on a boat with billowed sails....Jackie kept a lookout perched on Puff's gigantic tail. Noble kings and princes would bow whene'er they came....Pirate ships would lower their flags when Puff roared out his name. A dragon lives forever but not so little boys...painted wings and giant swings make way for other toys. One gray night it happened....Jackie Paper came no more. And Puff that mighty dragon he ceased his mighty roar.... His head was bent in sorrow...green scales fell like rain. Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane. Without his lifelong friend Puff could not be brave... So Puff that magic dragon sadly slipped into his cave.
