If youe been selling or shopping on eBay for any length of time, you are probably aware that the
issue of cigarette smoke smell is a concern for many buyers. That is why I disclose within my
listings that my home isn smoke free. However, I do take
a number of steps to ensure that the items I sell are protected.
I have a separate room designated for storing and handling my eBay items. This room is kept
closed at all times and a HEPA filter is kept running in the room 24 hours a day. All items, unless
stated otherwise, are cleaned prior to listing. Clothing items, once washed and photographed,
are wrapped in plastic bags and then stored in plastic bins in my eBay room. Other items I acquire
are taken immediately to the eBay room and kept there until they are shipped.
If I detect a smoke odor I will disclose that specifically in the listing but I cannot guarantee
that any item is odor-free for several reasons. On non-clothing items it is possible there
will be an odor that was present when I purchased the item myself and that does not readily clean
away. Also, packages may be exposed to smoking environments during transit.
Most who purchase items on eBay understand that they are not buying from a commercial retail vendor
and are prepared to re-wash clothing items on receipt or to accept the many possible characteristics
of previously owned items, particularly when they are of the vintage variety. However, if you are
especially sensitive or concerned, you
probably should not bid on my items, just to be sure.
