Don't live in fear of every chemical, but be aware of your environment and make it as healthy as you can. Toxins not only are the cause of many illnesses-but also cause us to age sooner.
Some ways to make your home healthier:
1. Regularly open up windows to air out your home of all the fumes and particles trapped inside.
2. Making your house healthier starts right at our front door.
Take off your shoes when you enter to avoid tracking in pesticides and lawn chemicals. Have an organic lawn & garden. Keep children & pets off treated lawns.
3. When you microwave food, don't leave it in plastic containers or with plastic covering. That plastic could leak into the food. Instead, use glass or other microwave-safe containers.
4. Instead of using toxic chemicals to clean your sink or bathtub-use baking soda or a non-toxic cleaning product. Especially one approved by the USDA. You can use white vinegar to clean windows.
5. To avoid the chemicals used in dry cleaning, take your clothes out of the bags while you are outside and throw the bags away. Then, let your clothes air out for at least a day before wearing them.
6. Use a dehumidifier to cut down on potentially toxic mold in places like garages and cellars.
7. If you must store old cans of paint or varnish, only do it in well-ventilated places that are far from the living area.
8. Include plants like spider plants, pothos, peace lilies and philodendrons in your home. They are experts at converting carbon dioxide to oxygen. Research plants suggested by NASA for your home. With children and pets you want plants that are not toxic if ingested or chewed on. |
