Recently I created and tested a pocket pull up pattern for older children and that has been a very successful venture! I have been creating and testing diaper art for a year now. I have a full time research baby who is now in a size large. I have made many changes to patterns and fabrics used over the year. I have found the perfect blend of absorbency, fit, cuteness and quick drying time.

What makes a good diaper?
Absorbency, make sure the diaper you are buying has several layers; either snap in or free hanging will give you quicker drying time. Look for diapers that have multiple layers of cotton or terry, cotton batting doesn absorb much so look for actual fabrics. Hemp and bamboo are wonderful for absorbency and antibacterial qualities; hemp cotton fleece is my personal favorite. Always ask questions if the answer isn readily available; how many layers are there in the diaper?

Look for AIOs (all in ones) with a plain PUL outer, a waterproof nylon outer or a Malden Mills fleece outer. Malden Mills windpro, 300 wt and 200 wt fleeces, are the only trusted waterproof fleeces. They have a limited number of prints; make sure you are buying a Malden Mills print by checking their site. If you want a print outer diaper, make sure it is poly PUL or a poly print outer.

Cotton outer AIOs, either PULd or with a sandwiched PUL, will not be effective unless they have some kind of barrier. Fold over elastic creates an effective barrier which helps keep liquid from wicking or walking around the cotton to the outer of the diaper. A stitch and turn diaper, topstitched or not, will wick with a cotton outer. If you like the stitch and turn look, I suggest that you buy a poly print outer or a poly PUL, either print or solid.
