I've always been inclined to draw or paint whatever comes to mind or whatever feeling I am trying to convey onto the canvas. The content of my paintings are a mixture of various ideas and themes. As new events venture through my life, new subjects appear in my paintings. The paintings can sometimes be abstract, surreal, fantasy or figurative.
I have also included making jewelry from sea glass. I am fascinated by the jewel like appearence of sea glass. I collect sea glass from various beach shores and make pendants and earrings from them wrapped in sterling silver wire.
What is sea glass?
Sea Glass also called beach glass or mermaid’s tears is broken glass that has been thrown into the ocean either by people, natural disasters, shipwrecks or other ways. It tumbles in the ocean through waves and rocks and over time, such as years, the overall glass becomes smooth with a frosted coating. By searching and hand-picking it can be found on the shores of beaches, lakes or underwater, it comes in many colors. Certain colors are rarer than others. It is nature’s way of taking our trash and recycling it into a beautiful gem-like stone.
I am a graduate from the Univeristy of Texas, Pan American with a Bachelor's of Fine Art and I own a small studio, MONA Lisy Art Studio in McAllen, Texas. I offer art classes to childern between the ages of 7 to 12 years of age.
