About Me & My Collections

I am married, 41 years to a wonderful man that I met on a blind date while I was in nursing school. We've lived in our present home for 34 years now. We were both born, raised, & attended schools here in the Norfolk area of Virgina. And that is a rarity in itself, being a Navy area with so many people coming & going! I'm a retired registered nurse and my husband is retired from the Naval Air Station here as a civilian electronics technician. We are kept company by Sadie, a 14 yr. old black lab mix, and a 8 yr. old stray cat, named Miss Kitty. We stay busy with church & club activities. My father-in-law & my husband completely restored a 1931 Model A Ford Sport Coupe. We belong to the Cape Henry Model A Ford Club and take their handiwork to shows, parades, and tours whenever we can. The car has won many awards & ribbons. We have 2 beautiful daughters and our 4 grandchildren are just the cutest, smartest, & most adorable grandchildren in the world!

I took a few months break from e-Baying in April 2002, after staying a month at my daughter's in IL. She had a beautiful, full term, 7 lb. 2 oz. baby girl on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2002. But something happened during the delivery & the Lord took Alexia back to be with him after 12 days. It was a very difficult time for the whole family & getting back into routines was very hard. As a mother, watching my daughter & her husband suffer such unbearable pain & feeling so helpless, not to be able to "fix it" is the most difficult thing I have ever had to do. As a grandmother, it was even harder to watch Michelle & Cody try to cope with their feelings, feelings they didn't understand nor know how to express. The hurt & disappointment of losing a sister they had looked so forward to welcoming into the family, helping to plan & buy things for was heart wrenching. The family is at peace knowing that God is in control of the situation & that we will see her again one day. Our faith got us through the trying times. My daughter started a website in memory of Alexia, please visit at http://home.earthlink.net/~alexiasgarden/index.html & sign her guestbook. There are pictures of the other 2 children there as well. In Oct. 2003, my daughter had a healthy baby boy. They decided to try again, the risk well worth it. They now live in Norfolk about 5 minutes from us & I'm thrilled to see the grandchildren a couple times a week now, instead of a couple times a year!
My oldest daughter & her husband had a 9 lb. boy in 2005 after 12 years of marriage! She also had complications at the time of delivery & we almost lost her from hemorrhaging, but the Lord got us through that trial, too. They now live in N.C. & I visit often!

My Dad died in 1989 of a heart attack & my 92 year old Mom is in a nursing home with Alzhemiers. She was living with us, but fractured her hip last year & is not able to walk due to a stroke she had a few days after the surgery to repair the fracture, so we had to put her in a nursing home. It has been a busy year trying to clean out the house that she & my Dad bought in 1941 when they were married & then to sell it. I now watch her go downhill a little at a time & slip away from us as her memory goes. Both my father & mother-in-law had Alzhemiers and both died on 2003. He died in April, she died in Dec. We were exhausted from caring for them & the demenia took it's toll on them & us. It was sad to lose them & we still miss them but in many ways it was a relief & we grieved their lost gradually over the years, as the people we knew slipped away & became strangers to the family. They are in a better place now & free from pain & suffering.

I like crafts, antiques & collectibles, flea markets, dolls, & anything country. I love collecting just about anything! That's the trouble! I can't stick with one or two types of collectibles, I want a little of each! I have more "stuff" than room to display it. It's hard for me to part with my things, but the house is just too crowded, so I must thin things out. I got started on e-Bay in 1998, after my oldest daughter suggested I try to get rid of some clutter by selling it on e-Bay. Of course, I probably buy more things than I sell, thus defeating my purpose! Anyway, I started out rather slowly and have gradually increased the number of items. I am cleaning out all the closets in the house & the attic. I have recently begun on cleaning out my storage unit & now, I have my parents & in-laws stuff to go through! It's been a slow task, what with babysitting grandchildren & taking care of the elderly parents. But, I'm determined to get it done -- eventually!
