Why is your international shipping cost so high? It is more than the actual postage amount.
Yes, my Shipping and Handling Charge is more than the actual postage cost. There are many other shipping and handling costs that my Charge must recoup. A very significant cost (as much as $1.40 per shipment) is the cost of a specially padded envelope so that the makeup powders are not shattered in transit.
A significant cost is the self insurance charge. Insurance is NOT available for First Class Mail. However, when your item doesn't arrive, you are going to demand I ship you a replacement item or refund your money. When I decline on the grounds that you chose to ship by a method of transit that cannot be insured, you will make a claim with PayPal. What many buyers don't realize is that PayPal does not pay those claims -- PayPal just deducts the money from the Seller's account! So it is me, not PayPal, that ends up having to cover lost items even though the buyer insisted on shipment without insurance.
Plus I have to cover the cost of the bubble wrap inside the envelope, and the tape and ink used outside the envelope -- I buy special pens and tape for my packages so that the address is clear and the package secure. So see there are a few more costs that you're not considering.
Please also note that my Charge is a "Shipping and Handling Charge." My handling charge on domestic shipments is approximatley $2. My handling charge on international shipments is $2-5. Processing an international package takes me 3-4 times as long as a domestic package. And for an international package, I have to actually physically go to the post office and stand in line.
