Shae Acopian Detar, the beauty and brains behind the trendy boutique - Lullie Vintage Clothing just might have been destined to sell smart vintage fashions. Born into an obsession for all things vintage by her antique collecting mother, Shae grew up with trunk shows, thrift stores, and overstuffed closets as the norm. "I remember being 13 years old at a vintage convention and having Betsey Johnson come up to tell me how much she loved my outfit. Who knows? Maybe that sparked something," says the 30 year old who runs the online-only store out of the loft in her Hollywood hills home. Today, you'll never see her running about without an outfit consisting mainly of vintage. Whether it's 60's babydoll mini's, 50's pencil skirts, or 80's cocktail gowns, hers' is a well-styled, rainbow colored life. Spending her formative years in New York City's inspired east side, she immersed herself in its vibrant art and fashion scenes. She says, "I live in LA at the moment, but my heart will always be in New York. It's such a creative place and a very big part of who I am today." At the tender age of 15, Shae began commuting to Manhattan 5 days a week before moving there soon after to work as a full time model. As she later turned her focus to the other side of the industry, she attended both Parsons School of Fashion and The School of Visual Arts before working for top designer Zac Posen. After working for Posen, she went on to design her own line of high end, organic, rock & roll inspired, children's clothing. Shae recalls, "I ran into a terrible snag with the production of my little girl's line when the organic cotton mill I was using went out of business the night before a huge trade show. I lost over a year's worth of work and thousands of dollars and didn't know what to do. I turned to my oldest love - the vintage in my closet - for relief. I styled some of my favorite pieces, set my camera's self timer to shoot myself wearing them, and then put them up on eBay." Now nearly 4 years later, Lullie Vintage has become a favorite shopping destination of hip girls the world over. By pushing the envelope of style and function, Lullie has been one of the driving forces behind the substantial recent growth of eBay's cool factor among girls in the know. Shae says with a grin, "Buying vintage on eBay used to be my favorite little secret. I guess it's not my secret anymore." And Shae's own Lullie Vintage Clothing is one of the main reasons for that.
