Welcome Doll Friends--We have a common bond.
When two people meet and share the common bond of their love for dolls they usually make a new friend. We must be alike in some ways. Maybe it is a love for children or that we are lonesome as our own grow up. Maybe it is just a love of a form of art or a childhood comfort. What ever the reason most all of us click when we get together and become one happy family sharing with one another an interest that the out side world may not understand.
Hold on to the past that which warms your heart with love.
My first memory of a doll is when I got the Lastics Plastic version of a new born crying baby. I loved it so much and though it was my own beautiful baby or maybe my little sister as I was the youngest of three. Everyone who saw her would tell me how ugly she was but I knew better. I told the first lie that I ever remember telling because of her. My friend's Mother said, "I can't believe your mother lets you play with a brand new towel." I said that it was a baby blanket and would not back down when I knew it was a towel. There was no way I would admit that my precious baby did not have her own blanket. Telling the lie must have caused me a little guilt as I never forgot it. My next baby was Bonnie Braids with magic skin. I was always burning with desire for that special box shaped like a shoe box. We didn't have a lot but my Grandmother and Mother always managed to get me my special doll.
The next doll was a magic skin generic girl doll with long dark hair. The common type that sits with a big rear. I named her Vickie and said that would be the name of my first real child. My taste changed a bit over the years so Vickie became Melynda when I had my first born.
My next doll was a Ginny. I remember that she cost $5.00 or near that because I earned $5.00 from my Grandfather and I knew just what I wanted to purchase. My little friend had accidentally pushed me down on a broken R.C. bottle and it made a large gash just under my eye. I had to be taken to the hospital and stitched up. I caused such a commotion by kicking and screaming that when it was time to take the stitches out Grandaddy said he would pay me $5.00 to be good and I didn't move or shed a tear because I had already picked out "Ginny", in a red cow girl outfit. My first love was horses so she fit right in. My second was roller skating so I got the roller skating outfit also. I do not remember how my 5.00 stretched so far but I suspect I had a little help. I have replaced my Ginny but I am not sure it is the same outfit. I added a few hundred that I didn't have also. Now I have a little doll house behind my house and my love for dolls has turned into a small business. What better could I ask for? I consider myself very lucky to be doing something that I love. My shop is only open when I am home and I love for people to come over to just spend the day talking dolls and sharing memories.
