The REAL Nannie Belle's Barn
|
Nannie Belle was my Great-grandmother’s name. Born in Texas in 1868, she and my Great-grandfather ranched in Sutton County, TX, where they actually had a barn or two!! The idea for my store name came from old photos of one of those barns in the family archives. However, the photo on my store home page is not that barn!!
My first venture into e-bay started when I bought several back issues of vintage Life Magazine for my father’s Christmas gift. He missed four years worth when he served overseas during WWII, and after reading them, he returned them to me complaining of an odor. Terribly musty, they bothered his breathing. Well now, what to do with these magazines??? Included in some of the first items I listed, these magazines did very well at auction and I was off and running.
As I traveled for my sales job, (e-bay being just for weekends), I gathered all sorts of goodies from various garage and estate sales across the Southwest, hoping these treasures would find their way to new homes and new collectors. As gas prices climbed, I made a change, leaving sales to take various jobs closer to home. One of these jobs was helping a woman clean out her dying mother’s house, barn, apartment, closet, cabinets, attic…….stuff was EVERYWHERE!!!! As I recovered more and more treasures (she still has most of them…too attached to let go!!) my vision was to find homes for all such lost treasures. And to make a little extra money…………
In the coming months, a newsletter is planned, featuring new items for sale, interesting trips and experiences; my journeys through the barns, garages, estate sales and junk stores of West Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.

Tom Green County TEXAS
|
Madbucko is MY grandmother name. When my granddaughter was little bitty, she had trouble with the "grandma" word and started calling me Bucko!! Whatever works! At least no one will ever confuse her grandmothers!
Living in a very small town in TEXAS is like being in heaven. Everything moves so slowly that no one here has much stress. I can sit on my front porch and watch the squirrels, birds and an occasional skunk play in the yard.......
My children and granddaughters live in New Mexico, one of the most beautiful states in the nation. I lived there for about 20 years and do miss its beauty. But TEXAS is home.
