About Me: majestyk( 1022Feedback score is 1000 to 4,999) About Me

Update: September 17th, 2009: So I got this little'o negative feedback from a fellow seller of retro goods (hum....). I've sold over 1000 Majestyk LED watches since 2006 and suddenly he swoops in from nowhere proclaiming that it's not an LED watch, but an LCD watch. Funny how no one else has made this stunning revelation, some of whom have the largest collection of vintage LED watches in the world.

In the above illustration, you can see the differences between a watch that has an LCD display which is aided by a backlight, and a true LED watch display. There were certain watches/modules that came out between 1999 and 2003 that had a continuous Liquid Crystal Display, aided by a red fiery glowing back light, to simulate the look of an LED watch. To this day I have no idea why such a watch was produced, since the first modern LED watches had already hit the market. These displays, which were only ever available in red, were shunned by everyone in the digital watch community, including myself.

The Majestyk uses a true LED display, which is illuminated for approximately three seconds and then shuts off. There is NO liquid crystal panel inside the display, or any other components that make up an LCD module...That's just silly now, isn't it. It's not a wire bonded LED display but more on the principle of the displays found in LED alarm clocks. (Which is the case with 98% of modern LED watches) I did not (and still don't) like any of the wire bonded LED displays back when I had the watch produced. The 'Majestyk display' will probably last longer too, since it does not rely on little tiny wires between the digits and pathways. The Majestyk Module, shown above, is exclusive to my watch! As far as the Blue display is concerned, I have never seen one that lights as bright.

I am in the process of getting ebay to remove the negative since he has "warned" people that it's an "LCD". He was also not in the slightest bit interested in my emails, my proof of the watch being LED nor my refund policy. He had an agenda to leave negative feedback, plain and simple and knows nothing about digital watches.

2005:

Thanks for checking out my auctions! My name is Jeff (aka Majestyk) and I'm from Vancouver, Canada. I've been auctioning LED watches for going on Four years now. My love of these old, "space age", looking watches started when I was just 7 years old. I remember first seeing them in a catalog, from a local store, and I just loved those red faces and those numbers that seemingly appeared out of nowhere. I'll never forget getting the stores 1978 catalog and there were only a couple LED watches in it. All the others were those boring LCD's. Then when the 1979 catalog came out, that was it; they were all gone.

I never gave them much thought, again, until 1999, when Fossil released their replica of the Pulsar P2. I immediately bought one and that is when my collection of vintage LED watches started. Fast forward 5 years and I've now sold 100's of them world wide. One thing I've learned about auctioning these watches is that people in the UK and Europe appreciate them more than North Americans. :) I've sold about 60% of my watches to people in the UK.

If you're "over seas" and have never dealt with a seller outside your country, don't be concerned about buying from me. I've yet to ever have a package go missing; they get there in the same amount of time as they arrive in the United States and I've never had anyone mention to me about duty or taxes. Just read my feedback!

There are some benefits you will get from buying from me. I accurately time all the vintage LED/LCD watches that I auction. To do this, I use the Zantech Quartz Watch Monitor. This was the top quartz timer for LED and LCD watches in the 1970's and with it I am able to restore a watches accuracy like it was new. Any kind of shock or vibration can cause a quartz crystal to deviate and in some cases drastically go out of the acceptable range, resulting in you having to reset it on a regular basis. Since these watches are 30+ years old with first generation quartz crystals, I've come across a lot of them that need to be timed. With some, it might seem like they are keeping good time at first, but after a week they've already lost or gained a minute. This won't happen with the watches I auction and most of them will lose or gain that amount of time in a year, many less than that.

In addition to timing, I also do some repairs to LED watch modules. You may notice that every seller of LED watches (including myself) state something like, "no warranty". There are mainly two reasons for this. The first is there is nobody that the seller can send their watches to, for repair. The few people that do offer a repair service only work on certain Pulsar modules. The second reason came about from a few rotten eggs. This was the practice of buying a watch, swapping the good module inside for a bad one and returning it back to the seller. (I can tell if someone does that). While I might state "no warranty", it does not mean your SOL if your watch fails. You can send it back to me and I'll do what I can to get it working again. Of all the watches I've auctioned, I've only had two people email me, later on, telling me that their watch was no longer working. In the one case, I took the watch back and sent another one out. With the other person, I replaced the module in his watch. I won't say I can always do this because I might not have the materials on hand at the time but I will do whatever it takes to try and make you happy. There's no way I'm going to say, "Sorry, my auctions states no warranty!".

When shipping out a watch, I pack them very carefully; not just so they get to you safely but I also pack them in a way that they don't get activated during shipping. If an LED watch isn't packed right, the button can be easily pushed in and the batteries will drain by the time you get it. There's nothing more disappointing when spending good money for a watch and the batteries are dead when you get it; especially when you have to take it to a jeweler to have them replaced.

All the watches I auction have the original bands, clasps, etc, unless otherwise stated. I do not mix and match parts on watches unless I acquired them in a state in which that has to be done and I don't have the suitable replacements. It's like auctioning a vintage Star Wars figure with the wrong weapon or cape; it just doesn't sit well with me. I like to keep the watches the way they were meant to be. Everyday I see sellers auctioning vintage watches with the wrong bands and they either don't know it or choose not to mention it. Fortunately, I've been collecting these long enough to know if the bands (etc) are original or not. If I'm not sure, I will confer with other collectors.

Regarding my two, very distant, negative feedbacks; one was a dumb mistake I made which had nothing to do with me selling. The other was from a non paying bidder who even emailed me to tell me that he left it just to spite me. :) He even cut and pasted the same neg I gave him. Geez, how many sellers talk about their negative feedbacks?

Thanks for visiting my About Me page and viewing my auction(s). I will always be adding to this, so please check back! I auction watches just about every week and mainly put them up on Sundays and Tuesdays.

Jeff
