Artist Statement

My artwork centers around the show cattle or "western" cattle business. I have tried to title and draw drawings that show some sort of emotional response from cattle people who "live the dream" of ever raising a champion or being lucky to win a big show with a steer, heifer, or bull. My husband and I have focused our whole life around the breeding cattle business, and we are totally consumed with the time, effort, and heart that cattle producers put into their progeny, herds, and lives. I think sometimes that the struggles and triumph that we (show road folks)go through are the biggest gift that we could be given, and I am making artwork to reflect the heart and emotion that is contained in the act of raising, selling, and showing registered cattle (oh, and some crossbreds too). My quality control department consists of my husband, who was a past Herdsman of the Year for a major beef cattle breed. He makes sure that every top, leg, and dewclaw are perfect. (As some of you know, fitters are notorious for being perfectionists when it comes to cows, so he makes me make my drawings 12-o-clock.) I will list new prints when I finish them, check back often!
