Thr Real Me

My name is Maria Korkinova. I am from Bulgaria. I studied Iconography /Orthodox icon painting/ at the University of Veliko Turnovo, Bulgaria, receiving my Master degree in 1999. Right now I live in Gabrovo. I work in several mediums such as Crayons, Colored Pencils, Acrylics, Oils, Tempera and Textile paints, Digital print. I produce art in a variety of styles, from orthodox-traditional, to abstract contemporary art.

Me And My Husband

My ideas arise spontaneously and unexpectedly. I like to experiment with colours and shapes, creating symbols and metaphors. I absolutely agree with Leonardo da Vinci, who says “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication” and I try to follow this in my work. Painting gives me an extraordinary pleasure and joy, but the real gratification comes when the audience likes my pictures. Having been finished they begin their own live, finding continuation and new signification in the interpretations of their spectators, surprising even for me.
