About Me: mariance( 3069Feedback score is 1000 to 4,999) About Me

Welcome! to Isle of view!
I am Mariance, also known as Ash or Mare
I am just getting restarted here,
and could use all the help I can get!

We live on the shore of the Great Lake Erie, in an area that is known as "Wine Country, USA".
We would be more than happy to try to find what ever interests you in our area. Beach treasure, Driftwood, for instance, or various types of rocks, worn pieces of glass, fossils, shale, old net floats, fishing lures ... it is simply amazing what washes up on the beach!
Along the Pennsylvanie/New York portion of Lake Erie we have vineyards, orchards ... an amazing variety of farms (and Wineries!), so if your wish list includes vines, seeds, even gourds, and Indian Corn (multi-colored) for crafts or other projects, please let us know, and we would be honored to help you with your own personal Wish List!
This area also takes pride in having the Largest planting of garden mums, a Railway Museum, "Beefalo", and a variety of things in between! We often offer postcards, both recent as well as vintage, and since I also collect local postcards, and local history, so I am also pleased to personally offer trade in addition to auctions!
Thank you for reading my perspective on our hometown, which I confess may well be prejudiced.(grin)

On behalf of myself and the Isle Of View Auction Family/Team members, I thought we might put up a list of frequently used abbreviations and meanings. It took me a while to learn them, and there are always new terms as we add new types of items for auction. Please feel free to ask about any terms that might be unclear, or make suggestions; they are also welcome!

Comic Gradings:
Grades go from the worst possible condition of a comic to the best, which is what it would be new ... although sometimes new comics cannot stand up to the grading ... these grades are used by the Seller to describe for collectors, usually based on the Official OverStreet Comic Book Price Guide, which is released on a yearly basis. This is available at most bookstores, or they can order it for you.
"Reader's Copies" are usually of a lower quality, but not always.
"DrSkull Orphans" are Comic books from DrSkull9 that seem to be all by their lonesome but often have a surpising way of fitting in just right some day.
Coverless - (obvious in meaning)
Pr or P - Poor
Fr or F - Fair
VG - Very Good
Fn of F - Fine
VF - Very Fine
NM - Near Mint
Often there is a Plus (+) or Minus (-) sign after the grading, meanining it is closer to the grading above or below it, but not quite
If cover only it is techinically in Fair, though some call it poor condition. It is called Being "Topped" or "Remaindered" like in books without covers, and commonly called "Logo off" as well
Slabbed - a term which most comic purists abhore; Slabbed is a Slang term for Comics, Coins or Cards Sealed in Acid Proof Plastic shells by Grading Companies. Such companies call it "Archiving".

The next line is a stamp description, starting with the price of the
stamps originally, the color as the Scott's defines them
Stamps come in a variety of colors, many of which are unique to the
world of Philately, please see the scans we put with an auction for
a better idea on the idea of what color is what.
For Instance: Lake - which is a red purple kind of color,
Vermillion - another reddish color,
Chocolate - a color of brown, and so on.
The next portion of the stamp desciptor is the name of the person,
or if it is in a Definitive (general issues) or
Commemorative (the name of the set, usually at the beginning of the Lot Description
The next line would be Mint (never used) or Used, with more description
as to the condition of the stamp.
The last line will have the current Catalog Price for the stamp in its current condition

I realize most Philatelists already know all this, but I thought it
might help anyone that is just getting in to Stamp Collecting
