Personal Stuff Mark is a counselor whose interests have included swimming, hunting, fishing, scuba diving, motorcycling, photography and creative writing. Although too busy to do as much of these things as he used to, he remains an avid reader and, above all, loves spending time with his family.
Tina is a full time mom. Her interests are reading, gardening, growing flowers, hunting good deals anywhere they can be found, fishing, camping & playing with the kids. Our silver anniversary is this year (July 23) and we joyfully look forward to many more.
The Family
We have five (yep – count ‘em FIVE!) wonderful children ages 8 to 20 years old. (Four are Texans and one is a Hoosier) Tina has home educated all of them; our oldest is completing her junior year of college. We began eBay as a family endeavor.
How Did We Get Started on eBay?
It all started with a decision to get rid of our television. Mark enjoyed the news, sports and History Channel, Discovery and TLC (Trading Spaces!) but going to graduate school had a big impact on our family time. One day he mentioned getting the cable shut off to free up more time together. Although he expected major resistance from the kids (maybe even sort of hoped for it!), everyone was in favor of the idea!
FAMILY TIME. We used the extra time to begin a family hobby. Since, we all enjoyed shopping on eBay, we decided give selling a try and we've been at it ever since!
COWBOY BOOTS. When we first started, we sold men's suits, women's dresses, leather coats, dress shoes, purses and so on. Then, almost by accident, we listed our first pair of cowboy boots. A nice lady in New Zealand won herself a beautiful pair of boots made by Larry Mahan.
We were familiar with cowboy boots, having lived in Texas for years. When we lived there, Mark was in the Army and our budget was always tight. Althought he had always wanted a pair of alligator or sharkskin boots, there was never enough extra money to spring for them. It was facinating to think about offering folks fine exotic cowboy boots for reasonable prices and so he began studying them in earnest. It wasn't long before cowboy boots were all we did (see photos of our first collection below) and we still love fine boots.
As the years have passed, so has eBay's role in our life. Originally we used the proceeds for vacation and fun times together. Later, during the last part of Mark's schooling, eBay put food on the table! After Mark graduated and began a new career and our oldest daughter left to finish her degree in Social Work, our son and daughter began to take over the business. Mark-n-Tina remain active but most of the proceeds go to Heather-n-David. We have gotten alot more than money out of eBay. Working together, appreciating the part each one contributes and then enjoying the fruit of our labor as a family, have made enduring memories. We remain big fans of eBay! And the cable is still off. |

Educated Buying
There are a lot of people selling western boots, shoes, clothes etc. on eBay. Thousands! What makes us different from many, is our clear photographs and accurate, tell-all descriptions. We go the extra mile to keep you from opening your box from Mark-n-Tina and experiencing that let down feeling we’ve had so many times. (We buy too.) When you buy from someone who displays fuzzy pictures and offers two sentence descriptions, you take a gamble. Sometimes you get great boots for very little money but, more often than not, you discover the reason for the vague depictions when you open the box!
Being Fair
Ever opened a box you’ve been looking forward to receiving only to find an item that doesn't look anything like what was pictured or described? Often, when you contact the seller, (if you aren't ignored completely) ONLY your purchase price is refunded. Why? Your purchase price and shipping fees are already in their account and now you are supposed to spend MORE money shipping the item back? Why should you lose your $15-$20 shipping fee plus have to pay to return a misrepresented item??? It doesn't seem fair to us either but it happens all the time. We don't do that.
Accuracy Takes Extra Time
NO SURPRISES. We show our boots in a way that accents their good points (we are trying to sell them after all!) but also reveals “issues” if they exist. Sometimes issues just don’t show up well so we circle defects in the photo or describe the issue so you know what it is. Also, if we say something is "little" it is really little. We have many buyers who win our items and when they receive it are SURPRISED to see that little bitty nick is really "little." Many sellers don't say a word about small things and medium and even very major issues, are described as "insignificant" if mentioned at all.
Lots of TLC. Some sellers snap a quick shot of their item and list it. In contrast, we spend time with each and every item doing our best to make sure the color of our photos matches the actual item we are selling. While most sellers have no intention of misleading buyers, a careless photo can produce a misleading result. For instance, a flash can cause cracked, damaged, or stained leather to look dazzling and new! In contrast, we check the color of every photo to make sure they look like the REAL ARTICLE.
No Gamble. We understand, you want to know what you are getting before placing a bid. We make sure you know what you are getting before the box arrives. The good feeling of winning a great pair of boots doesn’t start when you get the box – it begins when you win the auction – because you already KNOW you got a fair deal.
To Err is Human
What about mistakes? Please, please, please… if there is a discrepancy… (it can happen because we are human) … please contact us. If you find something that we did NOT mention in the ad immediately send it back our way. Once we verify our error we instantly refund 100% of your purchase price AND 100% shipping both ways as well as handling fees. In other words our mistake will not cost you a dime. (If the issue is pictured or described in the auction then it seems only reasonable that the buyer is accountable for reading it or missing it – fair enough?) We believe in friendly, accurate and honest transactions.
Value
You may pay a few dollars more for boots from Mark-n-Tina (but then again, many times not!) but you can actually see what you are buying before you buy it and know you will get a fair shake every time.
Size: If we say a size is stamped in the boots, it is there. Otherwise we make an educated appoximation. We also guarantee that the measurements we make are accurate. Other than that, we can't guarantee fit. No refunds or exchanges but please see our Buyers Guide for some tips of getting a good fit.
FEEDBACK – For every successful & fair transaction we leave POSITIVE FEEDBACK.
Well, thanks for getting to know a little about our story. Drop us a line and tell us about yourself.
